The same fascist forces that are running rampant in Russia today are the same forces metastasizing here in the US within the GQP. The tactics of misinformation are very similar, along with a lust for power at all costs. Russia is just further along in their timeline.

no effing doubt! (hey, they use the same money. Those US rightwing networks are pretty much Russian projects, with generous pockets. Same in recent Polish, Italian, German movements, to be sure). Those fuckers are everywhere.

Hey, I guess the pants-wetting conservatives were always right to be afraid of the hidden rooskies, and we always made fun of them! turns out....these guys were hiding in their closets, whispering in their ears, writing their gun laws and funding their NRA, and their wedge issue campaigns).

I get that the majority of conservatives aren't really aware of this or likely willing to be duped in this way, and it is really fucking hard to accept that, much less admit it, so I can sympathize. I'm just wondering how long it will take, if enough or even any of them, will be able to wake up from this decades-long tornado of shit-pumping that their brains have endured. I don't envy them that.

Not me, I imagine Taj as a basement dwelling butterball and Spidey as a gen-x with 90s cupface facial hair.

Nah, see Taj as the Older Guy you see at the diner or breakfast place, maybe the Chinese restaurant bar you occasionally go to. Big belly on the guy but fit otherwise and he constantly complains about shit, like everything. He is also really good at giving advice about lawn or car care or painting. Probably keep his stuff in near immaculate condition.

5'3", long, stringy hair on top, but wild and wirey when coming out the nose and ears. A paunch set low. Strangely long feet.

A little while ago I saw a piece with Sec. Blinken where the US admitted that they were in talks with Poland to get MIG's to Ukraine in exchange for new US aircraft.

Yes. Watched this this evening too. Seems that an early post saying that the hurdle was Polish reluctance seems accurate. Good to see we are keeping the conversation going.

Ok, the longer I watch this unfold the more I am struck by the utter unpreparedness, incompetence and ineptitude of the Russian Army.

I am also struck by people being so in denial of this, they sound like Qanoners ever since the election and think it's a fake out and the real "storm" is coming.

This is stunningly bad. By virtually ANY country's standards. But by the second largest military superpower on earth?

Holy shit. I have never seen a military be so vastly overrated... ever. Not even Iraq's pre gulf war.

This following reading this headline from CNN:

US: 95% of Russia's amassed firepower now in Ukraine

Monumental corruption obfuscates very considerably. That's inevitable.

You're amazed at the incredible overrating of the Russian military. I'm amazed at the extent of corruption in the Russian hierarchy. I'm no historian, but the wealth of the Russian oligarchy contrasts with the poverty of its citizenry to an extent that is to me shocking.

The reality on the ground courtesy of the BBC and its not for the squeamish. When you see it happen you'll want Putin's head on a platter.

combination of a lot of things, but to some degree their military isnt built for it.

wendover went through the numbers/reports and went through their historical record. equipment quality/effectiveness aside, russia isnt capable of doing big wars outside of their home turf where they have trains to compensate for lack of trucks and roads. they also have a push supply line vs a US type pull supply, which requires the command to have done a lot of prep work and prediction. their logistics failed them in afghanistan and it seems in even worse shape now.

Military Aviation History (formerly Bis18mark) has done an analysis and has 2 interviews from Justin Bronk, Research Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute and Richard Shimooka, Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute
Shimooka cant figure out how rus actually pays for all the weapon systems (subs, fighter, bomber, helo, tanks, missiles, radar, nuke) given their gdp. add in the corruption and oligarchs and it paints a dismal picture. russia tries to present themselves as at parity with the west in tech capability but even in syria they were dropping dumb bombs and not PGM.
Brooks says the initial rus air defenses could get their act together eventually and shut down Ukraine's jets and drones.

given how the t-90 was a rebrand of the failed record t-72, it is very possible the breakup of the soviet union in the 90's was that last time russian military
was really a threat. everything since has been crushing dissidents with little to no military forces(air, sam, radar, etc) unlike Ukraine.
