Rush is such an obscure band

I've always wondered this. Why does Rush have such a nerd following? Back in the day, way before I was into computers and such, I listened to Rush and liked them. . .along with all the other classic rock artists. On another gaming website I frequent, they go apesh!t about Rush too. . .even people I work with are like "Rush is awesome!!" like they're some sort of new hot band. What gives?

This like saying Deep Purple is an obscure band. Different era.

If people weren't listening to first year guitar students playing repetitious pop music that only can be evaluated after watching the video then they would still be as popular as ever.

Rush is absolutely awesome. I agree many people don't like them because they are tards. Something about Geddy Lee's voice from heaven really upsets them.

Rush isn't obscure by any means.. they're progressive rock pioneers and spawned a million other bands. They get tons of radio play around here (Chicago).

I think most people take offense to Gary's voice though.

Who the hell is Gary? 😕 Besides, Spongebob's pet snail?

Rush is a great band. You might find them obscure if you're not into classic rock. The only songs that ever get played on the radio are the late 70's and very early 80's stuff.

As Vic noted, the lyrics and singing on Presto and Counterparts are some of their best. I consider their music to be very precise and professional sounding.

I'll let the fact that you know Spongebob character names slide as you have children 😛

Gary is his real name.. Geddy is a nickname based on the fact that his mother's heavy accent can't produce 'Gary' and it comes out as 'Geddy'

It became a nickname afterwords

Yes, Rush is very obscure. If you dig a little, you might even find reference to other obscure bands such as The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, or even Led Zeppelin.

WHOOOOSH!

Is that an airliner flying over my head at 35,000 feet, or did I miss an earlier post that this one is mocking?
