That's not what I was told by friends who gave me the anime. They said I would understand how the main character got the dual scars, etc.

With Kenshin the OVA's take place 10 years before the series begins. The movie takes place at the end. And Seishohen/Reflections takes place about 15 to 20 years after the series end. Kenshin is a great series, but season 1 moves a little slow. Season 2 episodes 28 to 62 are the best parts of the series. In fact season 2 is some of the best anime I can suggest to someone. If you liked the Kenshin OVA's I recommend checking out Berserk too. It's a good anime and is pretty violent too.

I was "told" to watch the whole thing in that order: ovas, tv series, Seishohen/Reflections

Through the series you're supposed to be wondering why he has the scars. You're supposed to slowly discover bits and pieces of his pass, and after the series ended, those OVA would rock your world.

But now that you'd watched the OVA ... well, at least they rocked. Some of the best animation ever produced, combined with some of the best story-telling ever.

Well originally there are 4 OVA episodes. Then there are 2 more made to be the conclusion/end all of Kenshin in its entirety. Theres is a movie out there, but it's not too great.. it's like a longer average episode of the series.

I watched it in the same order you did and wasn't to appealed by the episdoes at first. But just keep watching and then WOW. Truly awesome. The beginning episodes come more into perspective then also. But the last episodes are total cr@p.

the first OVA's were what got me hooked on anime to begin with. There isn't a series I've watched up to this day that can compare to the Kyoto story arc (shishio makoto), which in turn pales in comparison to the work in the first OVA's. The Tokyo arc (which is the first storyline) is for background info and character development. By the end of it, all the main characters are introduced. After the second one ends, the series' quality trails off. The third story arc deals with the second successor to the Hiten Misturugi Ryu, and Kenshin goes to stop him and his revolution. This is where he gets blinded by the enemy's new move. That arc ends when they go head to head, each with their succession technique (amekakeru ryu no hirameki) to see who's is fastest, and therefore who's is best, and therefore who is the rightful heir to Hiten Mitsurugi. the last arc is worthless, having to do with elemental something or anothers. the entire series wraps up in a single worthless episode in which the loose ends arent tied up at all. The second OVA is where the Kenshin saga ends, without a doubt, and without room for any more sequels. hope that jogs some of the memory in you old timers :) i'd love to see a new series with kenji (kenshin's son from the manga with kaoru) and yahiko (little boy with the attitude). bad ass :D

edit: for da typos!

I agree with Zugzwang152. the shishio sage is amazing. i didnt think an anime coule be "riviting" but it was i just had to keep watching. the rest of it isnt bad but not as good. definitly worth watching tho

If you liked the OVAs, then start on episode 28. It starts the "Kyoto Arc" which is pretty much dragging up the past started in the OVA. I think that arc lasts until ep 66 or so. Anyway, you'll know when it ends, and all the other arcs are worthless in comparison. Good luck.
