running shorts

I've been running a bunch lately. 3-4 miles a day. I've start going more frequently, and I've noticed that I've started breaking out on my inner thighs. I was a speed skater growing up, so I have huge legs compared to the rest of me. When I stand up straight, my inner thighs either almost touch or touch.

It seems I'm basically rubbing the inside of my legs raw from running. I wear just normal athletic shorts, and no underwear. Do you guys have any specific recommendations to keep from chaffing? Any specific kinds of material I should have? Keep my shorts, but get some kind of running underwear?

Petroleum Jelly, rub it on your thighs. Or you can use this stuff.

Compression shorts. They are a life saver for me. I just wear them as underwear. If you have an Academy near you they are real cheap there. I forget the brand, but I buy the cheapest ones they have and they work great.

No! He will rub the lube on his sweet supple legs.

This thread turned weird really quickly.

I've done both the compression shorts and the vaseline trick. They both work just fine.

As a chick, I've got to ask: WTF, how does any guy run with no underwear? Doesn't that hurt?? And if your legs are rubbing, don't you chance catching your dangly bits in the grinding???

At the time, it was the better option. Undies I had were too restrictive and caused even worse chaffing.

Running shorts will have a liner to keep the boys from bouncing.

Yep, I have three pairs of these types of shorts. Love them for longer runs because there's almost no chaffing.

First marathon I ever did, I made the mistake of wearing boxers. The places around the male parts and between my thighs were rubbed bloody. Hurt worse than the sore muscles. :/ Never did that again.

They also do make running briefs, but I don't have a pair and haven't ran with them before. Not sure if they work or not.

I use boxer briefs and basketball shorts. No rubbing. No breakouts. No "free roaming" or anything else.
Regular boxers are no damn good for anything. I dont even know why they still get made. Do people actually wear them?

Summer time it's all I wear walking around and at work.

I am more built like a powerlifter than a runner, so thighs that can chafe and I run about 4 marathons a year (slowly), plus a bunch of half-marathons. For up to about 4 miles, just running shorts are good. 4 to maybe 10 miles, gotta go with the compression shorts under my running shorts. 10 miles +, compression shorts plus body glide. Can't be too careful, chafing can be really awful after those long runs
