People still play text based MUDs/RPGs, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm one of them, btw. ;) lol

Never played Runescape though.

Yes, and to give you an example of the type of people that play:

My 14 year old son plays
My 11 year old son plays
My 9 year old daughter has played
My 7 year old son plays

Have fun playin with the kiddies OP.

BTW, before anyone goes a bitchin, all of my kids know that it is strictly verboten that they provide any information about themselves to other Runescape members. And to make sure that they stay on track with that rule, I have a keylogger installed on their computer that emails me their keystrokes every hour.

I thought only kids played that game. If you have a job you might as well just play WoW

Yeah, I was gonna ask you how this game is for kids. Do they keep it pretty clean in there? I've never checked it out, but my son has been asking about playing ever since his friend across the street has been bugging him to get an account so they can play. His mom monitors NONE of his net access and he has free reign in his own room with his PC, something I think an 11 year old shouldn't have.

My son has net access in his room, but he knows better than to get on websites I wouldn't approve of. He knows I'll remote in at any point and if I catch him he's on electrronics lockdown.

My answer to my son playing Runescape has been, "Why would you play games with your freind online when he's 40 feet away and you can play outside?". haha

My 10 and 12 y/o sons play it. I've monitored it extensively, and it seems pretty decent. Haven't had a problem. #1 rule is "No Chat". We keep it at that, and they don't have a problem.

I used to play it in like 6th grade and my account is still there, but I think I'm going to sell it to some seniors at my school (seriously, WTF?).

Paranoid much? When I first got on the internet (age 7) my parents basically said "no chat rooms, no personal info of any kind" and explained why in a detailed way that I could understand. I agreed and obeyed because a: they were my parents and b: their argument made sense. No parental software required.

For the record: How did I know there wasn't any? Around 6th grade I started exploring the pornographic arena. My dad caught me via Internet Explorer history. I learned how to delete history and temporary files (in many programs). Next time I got caught was 9th grade, and that was because I didn't Alt-Tab quickly enough. :D

Ironically, porn was responsibly for my learning the basics of internet security and encryption. :)

:-/

I got on the internet pretty early. My cousin was huge on the stuff and was in chat rooms all the time when I went over. I even made my own geocities web page(I didn't know HTML lol) when I was like... eight or nine? :p

Anyway, good times... :) I think it is great to not monitor your child's internet use. My parents didn't... They just happened to look at the browser history one day when I was like eight/nine and saw I went to sex.com lol! I just typed it in and was like, "hmm.. there really is a website for everything..."

But then yeah... we got spyware/adware whatever from that shit. (Virus?) That sucked. We got a virus from sex.com lame... :( Frikkin' jerks... It plagued our computer for a long time. Gosh I was such a noob. My parents were not much better. We were all new to it all.

Anyway... My head hurts.
