Rumsfeld was a punk. Don't know much about Gates.

Dem slim majority in both houses plus Republican president = GRIDLOCK.

That's actually a good thing.

The major concern (IMHO) is if the House Dems do indeed try to turn Iraq into Vietnam, probably still no fix for Social Security, the Fair Tax initiative is dead for the next two years, and there will be no effort to make the tax cuts permanent.

The way I see it... if there are democrats in office... that means I don't have to hear about democrats complaining about Republicans being in office. I don't hardly ever see republicans whining as much as the democrats... about some particular person being in a particular office. That's probably how so many social programs were put in place and my taxes increased... overwhelming democrat whining. Glad the democrats got some political swing... maybe they'll shut up between now and the next election.

And finally the worst administration in history is unraveling. And the peasants rejoiced!

I'll celebrate when the situation in Iraq gets better.

Its a step in the right direction.

A baby step. How do we know this Gates guy (if that's who it ends up being) is going to do anything different?

Nope, because he doesn't flip flop on stem cell issues, will c*kblock a major electricity merger that will lower our costs, will help the environment more than the old incumbent's broken promises, is setting new laws to protect us from gas price gouging, will provide tax breaks on homes <400,000, etc. I'm actually a Libertarian but enough is enough.

I'm just saying... People are making it sound like the first thing the new guy is going to do is order all the troops home tomorrow.

Nothing will change, terrorists will still bomb Iraq.

The Army Times is owned by Gannett Press...the same company that owns the USA Today. The editorial staff and most of the writers have never served in the military. Beyond the name, there really isn't anything military about it.

If Stars and Stripes or one of the other real military publications had done that it would have been way more meaningful.
