If we have satellites that can read a newspaper from space, why they hell could be not find one turban-wearing freak of nature in a desert?

Unless I"m wrong I think its a common misconception that military satellites are that accurate. Furthermore even if they are it still requires somebody to sit behind a screen and identify Osama from among 25 million people.

It would be so bad-a$$ if our special forces teams were THAT good...to be able to get into Afghanistan THAT fast, triangulate his position, then nab his a$$ before he knew what hit him.

I seem to remember proving in my physics degree that current satelite technology cannot resolve better than 1m or so. "active optics" will improve that, but they CANNOT read your newspaper, not a chance.

Back in the 80s we gave Israel satellite photos on an Iraqi nuclear power plant under construction (they bombed the sucker as it was part of Saddam's nuclear weapons program)... the resolution was down to under 8 inches. That was the early 80's... think about it. Now, we might not be able to read a newspaper, but we can find a guy reading one for sure.

Still don't know what to make about all of this.........who knows but, the reports are out there......as for the above statement, I thought about this too......now, consider that several Groups have reportedly "defected" to the Northern Alliance in the past few days and couple that with "intelligence" reports, it may be possible that enough evidence was gathered from defecting forces & intelligence to pin point his location and subdue him............

Sure we can. In fact, if I reposition one of our birds I can read the magazines on your desk.

Hmmm, looks like porn.

WTF, what the hell are you doing with a copy of "Chicks with D!cks???"

<< Well I can't help but think of the story about the Russians about to move into Kabul that I read a day or two ago. Totally unfounded and worthless news. >>

Got a link to prove that? :)

'No information' on rumours of Osama capture: US, UK
AFP
(Washington, October 11)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The White House has "no information" on rumors that Osama bin Laden, blamed here for September 11 terror strikes on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, has been captured, spokesman Ari Fleischer said Thursday.
"I have no information on that," Fleischer told reporters.

Downing Street also could not confirm that Osama bin Laden had been arrested, a spokeswoman said Thursday following rumours that have been circulating both here and in Washington.

"We are aware of the rumours, but we are not aware of bin Laden being arrested," a Downing Street spokeswoman told AFP.

Word of the arrest of the alleged culprit of the September 11 attacks in Washington and New York began to circulate around London's financial markets at 3:00 pm (1400 GMT), Audrey Childe-Friemann, an economist at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, told AFP.

All I have to say is that if we really did capture him and put him on trial I hope he never makes it to the trail. I sure hope some gives him a taste of what Oswald got.

If our troops find him, I hope they shoot him and leave him in the cave, and don't say anything. Because if he is captured or killed in a highly public way, all that happens is that he becomes a martyr for their cause. Someone for them to rally around, even moreso than the Jihad he declared. I highly doubt that they will want him captured. They might say dead or alive, but I would hope that SF has "shoot on sight" orders. I certainly don't want my tax dollars going to spending millions on keeping him isolated from a prison populated with inmates that are itching to be an American hero. He would probably be in the same supermax that McVeigh was in, but still.

I've heard from several sources that ObL's followers are to kill him if capture seems unavoidable. I don't think we'll ever see him brought to traditional justice, it would screw up the whole martyr plan:|

<< It does not really matter. The Jihad is on already. Everyone who is going to die is going to die. We need to bring Osama to the States and put him on trial like any other common criminal. >>

should go to an international court, otherwise it'll give the terrorists another excuse to hate america. they'll say it was a rigged trial/stupid american propaganda/etc. on the otherhand they might say that even if he was tried in an international court...
