There is an event separate from the PC gaming show that is on the 16th, so I assume cards will be shown there. Also, they said at Computex that they will reveal the Fiji card on the 16th.

NV sold 1 million GM204 chips in 2.5 months.

That's a disaster if true, way worse than mining demand. 30,000 units won't even move the market share much more than 0.1% because there are 9-12 million dGPUs sold per 1 quarter. If NV releases a $229 960Ti, drops 970 to $279, re-adjusts 980 to $399-429, AMD's $100-400 stack is going to be annihilated. NV isn't even sweating because they have a lot of room to cut prices and release a fully unlocked GM200 with higher clocks and this will basically to beat anything AMD has to offer in 2015. Plus, NV has been including great popular games with its game bundles. I don't know what AMD's management is really thinking. If there were going to name Fiji as Fury and not 300 series, they should have released R7-9 300 series January 1, 2015. If 390/390X barely improve perf/watt from 290/290X and they cost $300-450, one has to wonder what AMD has been doing for the last 1.5 years. Surely they could have re-spun Hawaii silicon and improved leakages, etc.

AMD Radeon Fury X competes directly with Titan X in leaked benchmarksAccording to a leaked 3DMark FireStrike benchmark, the AMD Radeon Fury X kicks some serious ass. We have been posting AMD Radeon news all week, but as we get closer to the announcement next week, the details become more clear. VideoCardz.com has posted some 3DMark FireStrike results, showing that the Radeon Fury X can keep up with the Titan X from NVIDIA.

As you can see, the Fury X scores 7873 while the Titan X is just a tiny bit better with 7989. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 Ti is only a little bit behind Fury X with 7781, but it's the CrossFire performance that we should be looking at. Two of the HBM-powered Fury X cards in CrossFire push out an incredible 13,925 - but still ultimately lose out to Titan X in SLI with 13,964.

The Radeon Fury X will feature 4GB of High Bandwidth Memory on a 4096-bit memory bus, the first video card to ever be released with HBM. The CrossFire scaling on Fury is is pretty damn good, sitting at around 176% - but most dual GPU setups in synthetic benchmarks always push 150-180% scaling. It'll be interesting to see the CrossFire scaling on more mature drivers, in actual games.

That OC'd 980 Ti looks amazing... Personally on casually watching the space, with the price point of the 390x coming it so much higher (seemingly, we won't know for sure of course until it's out) than some 290x... to me it looks like your choice really is an AMD 290x at about $270 or you might as well jump up to that OC'd Gigabyte 980 Ti at $689. The 290x seems to be nearly identical in performance to the 970 which is 50 or so more expensive, the 980 seems to be a very minor gain in performance for a good amount more (about 250)... so you might as well go 290x or 980 Ti... unless of course the new AMD lineup has surprises... which I hope it does.

I highly doubt its true. If they are talking about the watercooled one maybe, but would still expect more stock than that. 30k won't make any kind of dent.

30 k fury and fury non-x cards only? Delayed fury cards? low yields on HBM they claim. Hard to imagine they've only managed ~120,000 good memory chips in so many months.

If this is true, then AMD is totally screwed.

It really feels that every time there is a positive rumor about fury there is a completely negative rumor about this or that. We had rumors the other day about fury matching titan x and now we have this rumor about only 30k units.

Smells bad to me. "Hey don't look at performance of that AMD card... oh, wait there are numbers, well.... umm... you'll never get one anyway there's only 30,000 of them. Go buy a 980ti RIGHT NOW!"

Honestly, AMD needs to hire more people to sit in forums and troll Nvidia all day long over everything. Feels like it works for Nvidia....

Looking forward to seeing the results of this gen 3 version. Interesting how they are putting DX12 on the box now. This could be a good marketing feature considering a lot of gamers looked at R9 290/290X as DX11.2 cards only. It's all about that marketing for the average Joe PC gamer. 😎

That sounds more or less what I've read too. WCCFTech reports that retail availability for R9 300 series cards is June 21st. It looks like Fiji retail launch may not even happen until July if reviews are on June 24th.

As crazy as your statement sounds (I've never seen a GPU generation where there was nothing worth buying between $330 and $650), right now it sure is looking like it. Gigabyte 970 with BAK bundle is also a great deal at $300. $220 after-market 290 is an incredible deal for someone with a > $20 PSU. That's why a lot of gamers were hoping for a $499 air-cooled Fiji PRO with 15-20% more performance than a 980. I just don't see how R9 390/390X will be worth buying over a $220 290 and $270 R9 290X unless AMD chopped off 80W of power usage, added an all new HEVC UVD engine and someone absolutely requires HDMI 2.0.

The most disappointing part of all is for someone who bought a $399 R9 290 in late 2013, there is still no reasonable upgrade path besides a $650 980Ti and R9 390/390X do not look like upgrade paths for 290/290X users. That's why it's imperative that AMD has 2-3 SKUs of Fiji cards (Fiji WCE, Fiji XT air, Fiji PRO air).

You guys remember early last year, Asetek announced it won a big contract to supply AIO coolers to a third party, due to ship in 2015?

I had estimated then, with a value around $50 ea, it would only be ~50K units. Now that the card is confirmed, it doesn't look to be a standard AIO and that it looks to be a full block (since no fan on the card).

Definitely WCE is a niche product and in low volumes. The Air X and Pro will be much better bang for buck.

Wait a minute, matching Titan X was positive? To me, this was a big negative: AMD needs to take the performance crown outright, and they need to take it by >10% to avoid being beaten by factory-overclocked GTX 980 Ti cards (and the hybrid-watercooled Titan X versions).

I wouldnt put my weight in any such rumors for now. It could be disinformation, miscommunication or outright lies (or truth).

I tried searching for a reasonable article that hinted at possible yield issues with HBM from hynix and only came across links to rumors already posted.

I'd say, for gameworks games you need it. Or are better off with it. Normal games at 1080p you are fine with less than a 980ti.

Honestly, I'd feel better if the cooler was smaller and lighter than on the XFX R9 290X, because that might indicate that AMD got their power consumption under control. This cooler seems to hint that the R9 390X is still going to be a fire breathing monster - maybe even worse than the R9 290X, because of the higher memory speeds. (Higher RAM speeds was why the 200 series had worse perf/watt than their 7000 series counterparts.)

If AMD brings any meaningful competition (still an open question at best), then Nvidia may drop the GTX 980 to $399. At that point it would be a reasonable choice, assuming that the R9 390X doesn't offer anything new. The GTX 980's massive advantage in features and perf/watt means that if its price was anywhere near that of the R9 390X, there would be absolutely no good reason to go with the AMD card (unless the Grenada respin is more than just a new stepping).

Keep in mind, GM204 isn't much bigger than Tonga, and it has a 256-bit bus width and modest power requirements. Nvidia has plenty of room to drop pricing on the GTX 980 while still maintaining good levels of profitability. Even $349 for the GTX 980 would still give Nvidia very respectable profit margins. Nvidia also has the option to create a GTX 970 Ti which is equivalent to the GTX 970 except with full L2 cache, ROPs, and memory controller - thus putting the 3.5 GB issue to rest once and for all. AIB partners wouldn't have to change anything at all on the boards, this could be a drop-in replacement.

AMD may yet surprise us with the R9 390/X and R9 380. If they come up with something beyond just a new stepping, I'll be pleasantly surprised. But if not, then AMD will have to cut prices drastically from the leaked figures to get anyone to buy their rebrands. The added RAM might justify an extra $50 or so (even though it will be completely worthless in 90% of applications) - but that still means maybe $349 for the R9 390X and $299 for the R9 390. At those prices, AMD is still going to have trouble making a profit. The air-cooled Fury Pro, assuming what we've heard so far is accurate, might be a competitive product at $499 or so - but will AMD be making money on it at that price level, given the apparent expense and yield issues of first-generation HBM?

Why are FuryX Supply rumours of 30k units being compared to 970/980 when this card appears to be going head-to-head with TitanX? Wouldn't it make more sense to compare it to TitanX Supply?
