In days when consoles couldnt patch the games where better quality, smaller yes, less complex, but still, a finished product.

Now there almost as bad as PC games, but at least you know your console can run the thing.

One upside to PC gaming though is that the current crop of consoles is quite old , 5 years is a long time and there still running games at 720p, doesnt look like an xbox 3 or pS4 is likely either.

He's just too young to remember how much a pain in the ass it was to play games in dos.

Oh I loved having to load DOS everytime I booted my PC... Later I upgraded to a Tandy 1000 HX that had DOS already inside loaded!!! I ended up spending about 2500 on that PC as I purchased a 1 gig hard drive, yeap 1 gig... Making game play discs for games like Dungeon and dragons it would take up to 2 1/2 hours and that would be with the next gen 3 1/2" discs... On one game I did this 2 1/2 hour process at least 3 times due to an error at the very end of the process... Oh the good ole days lmao...

Was that sound blaster 16, sound blaster 32, midi, awe32, roland, or what?

Hehe good old DOS days,it took skill back then just to load a game, mind you amazing how much you could get on a floppy in those days.

That last point is not really a negative - frequent patching is good. I mean, just look at the first Starcraft: last patch issued in 2009.

For balance changes, exploits etc, yes I agree.

Day 1 patches tell me something was fundamentally unfinished when they shipped it. I'm not a fan of that.

I don't quite follow that logic. SC2 had a long, high-functionality beta during which Blizzard issued several patches both for bugs and balancing. They pushed the 1.01 patch out very soon after launch. Why would the day 1 patch indicate something being "fundamentally unfinished" if the earlier and subsequent patches did not?

Because there's more to the game than the multiplayer component?

Dont get me wrong, blizzard is a shining star when it comes to PC gaming. Frequent patches to improve are great. Patches like the ones that black ops needed to make the game work in the first place....thats all too commonplace.
