Rumor: Intel Core i7 990X Extreme coming next month

Main effect of this: All the people who bought the i7-980X will be upset that they no longer have the best 😀

In any case my guess is that it costs $999 just like the i7-980X. Intel seems to be doing that a lot lately, releasing new cpu's at the same price, but with multipliers that are 1 higher.

They have been doing this forever.

unless it is a new stepping, there shouldn't be a point. They both have unlocked multis. I would expect them to have similar maximum OC's, kinda like the 920 and 930.

What do you think the chances are that Intel will release a limited edition core i7 999x cpu? 😀

ummm if ur playing the racing game, its not a big deal.

If anything it will be inventory.

If i wasnt hinted at a possible 2011 showing up to me, i think id grab the 990X if i got the opportunity.

Ive seen them in action, and there pretty nice. 😀

I think the pricing will be just slightly above the 980X. If I were to make a bet on it, I'd put it little under $1100($1089?).

According to TechPowerUp, the Core i7 990X will be based on a new stepping of Intel's 32nm Gulftown architecture.

If that is true then it could very well be worth it. A D0 for six cores? If so 4.5 could be the new 4.2. 😉 (but I want 5.0)

actually i heard it was a C stepping, and not a D stepping.

Yes I was referring to "D0" as in D0 to C0 i7 overclocking. It was not expected to be better but experience proves otherwise. Besides chips are cheap and safe compared to other things one can spend $$$ on. 😉

i heard these chips do 4+ on air @ like a a sick 1.2 vcore.

Which is why i really want one.. but i cant let greed take over or i will lose 2011.

4+ meaning high 4s or 4.2 ish? I can do 4.2 on air without breaking a sweat. After 4.3 it clearly feels like pushing a table through water. (which I've done - it's hard hehe)

They tend to follow the same pricing patterns, and I remember a QX9650 being $999 and the QX9770 being $1499.

We shall see!

umm... expect a review from me.

possibly.. need to confirm when shipment will arrive tho.

Guys i have got the 990X sample from my sponsor.

waiting for OK's to post, but lets just say 4ghz @ 1.2vcorish rumors are not rumors.
