[Rumor]GTX 980Ti to launch somewhere between May 16-26th

I moved back to 1080p too. Got a deal on the 55" EC9300 OLED for $2K. I sit ~8ft away so the pixels are not discernible and it looks incredible. I've tried some 4K displays (the Dell UP3214Q and Samsung HU8550) and there's just no comparison, the contrast of OLED blows them away.

Really hoping the tech comes to monitors so I can get one in 30-40" size. Haven't had any issues with image retention either.
 
Titan X is $1600 here. Which just isn't worth it. I have no problem with a $1K or $1100 but you are tripping if I spend that much on a GPU I'll replace next year.
 
It really doesnt make any sense to call it 980Ti. Unless there is essentially no yield loss on the huge 600mm2 die. Calling it 980Ti leaves no room for a cutdown version. And that questions any rumour using the name.
 
The price/performance has been more-so incremental and evolutionary, 699 may even be deemed some value now by today's pricing.

They did use the 85 moniker with the GTX 285 from a GTX 280 -- so a slight possibility that it may be named a GTX 985 -- and with a lesser, cut down derivative named a GTX 980 ti.


One may imagine, it may be difficult to keep GTX 980's 550 MSRP 'till Pascal, so it makes some sense there may be lesser derivatives of the bigger die.

Unless 980ti is going to be $999 and 15% faster, it makes no sense for NV to release full GM200 with higher clocks and sell it for less.

Same reason why NV released a 780 after the original Titan. Opened up a new market of buyers. People will see the ~$300 savings as a bonus since it will match Titan X speeds w/o the premium price for 12GB of RAM.

Yeah, GTX 985 or GTX 970Ti with 2500 cores I guess.

If I should guess I think GTX 980 price will be reduced down to $450 to make it more tempting against R9 380X which will be 290X rebrand. Then have GTX 970 reduced to $350-$400 to really steal the sales from 380X since they perform the same but have vastly different thermals.

- GTX Titan X 12GB 3072 cores: $899
- GTX 980Ti 6GB 3072 cores: $700-$750 vs R9 390X
- GTX 970Ti 6GB 2500 cores: $600 vs R9 390
- GTX 980 4GB 2100 cores: $450
- GTX 970 4GB 1500 cores: $350 vs R9 380X

Game over AMD.

I want to see how the field looks after all of the cards are on the board. Buying anything right now would be irrational when we know that at least AMD is going to launch something within the next 2 months.

Whats being rebranded? 980 to 980Ti? Rebranding is only a negative when same card, same performance is offered at same price with new name. None of that applies to the card in question in this thread.
 
If it is equal to or beats a 390x/Titan-X and I can get a lightning-esque version of it for $649-749 I'm on board. If not bring on Pascal.

Sadly most games I play currently are Nvidia biased so the 390x would really have to be something special for me to buy one. Also the whole g-sync monitor thing.

Other than Carrizo, what else is confirmed? Not that I don`t believe you that it won`t happen, but the last thing Lisa Su (AMD) said is that they will talk about new graphic cards in Q2 (April - June) and will launch some cards in H2 (July - December).

I really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really really hope that the Metal Enhanced Version is with Water Cooling. It will be one beastly card, with say 1300MHz and premium cooling.

780 was well slower than Titan. It needed a good OC to match it.

The rumor here is 980ti class is a full GM200 with 6gb vram. That already frees up TDP to allow a higher boost out of the box. It will be faster than Titan X if it isn't a cut down GM200.

It's more similar to if NV launched Titan, then follow up a few months later with the 780ti.

Even then, Titan has the compute advantage & 3 vs 6gb vram to hold its price in place. Titan X does not. It's only got performance and 12GB vram as the advantage. Once it loses in performance, 6gb vs 12gb isn't much of a selling factor for nearly every single gamer (unless they are packing 4K & like to run with 8x AA or multiple 4K monitors), as 6gb is the "console port sweetspot".

It actually makes little sense to stomp over Titan X with a cheaper 980ti that beats it, this early without competition.
