RTCW & MOHAA...

I didn't really like RTCW but it seems to be getting awards galore. The single player was okay but the multiplayer is just weird. I really enjoyed MOHAA and I thought it beat it in all areas except that RTCW contained the "fear or war" it seems. It was dark and had some scary war music when you were discovered by the Germans. (Also a lot like Where Eagles Dare music 🙂 )

MOHAA was a little too honkey-dorry for a WWII game. D-Day was practically a nice day whereas it was stormy and in the morning. Also the sand was too light, it too should have been darker like a brown and not a golden brown. These are petty details but would have added to the game's realism immensly. Medal of Honor Frontline had a really good D-Day since it was dark and the sand was relatively dark. I also loved their plane effects, MOHAA should have contained more. But both MOHAA & MOHF should have been rated M for mature and had swearing with all the elements of war in it. Not neccesarily just blood but the guy's faces [In MOHAA, looked good in MOHF] should have been dirty and bolder, they looked too squeaky clean.

RTCW wasn't fun for me considering I can't run the game very good even with everything on low settings. But the Germans looked great, the Allies were so-so but graphically both games[MOHAA & RTCW] were in a tie. MOHAA wins by a landslide for sound effects despite no real EAX support. RTCW had decent sounds but nothing that gives you goosebumps or the feeling you're there. Alright, I'm done complaining and I don't know why I made this post but I was curious if anyone agreed with me on these matters. I think MOHAA wins for best WWII game to date.

I don't know why RTCW keeps getting credited to ID. They did the engine, yes, and probably stared over the shoulders of the guys at (who made it? Raven?) and more than likely didn't do much work on the actual game.

Well it's id's franchise and their engine, Gray Matter just seemed to pick up the pieces and put them in the wrong places but like all ugly art, it won numerous awards and was acclaimed. Nerve should have got the awards for their fantastic network software. Even when I had 56k, I had no lag.

I didn't like how bad the maps were made in MOHAA, you'd walk up a hill and suddenly you couldn't walk further as they had put the edge there. Or further on in the game when you'd approach the edge and the border was just a 2D hedge. Looked pretty crappy. Didn't like the single player watchtowers being able to hit someone with their machinegun while you were standing directly under the tower either, or the fact that as they didn't want to put in bosses they just tried to make the end part purely based on luck (even with skill the random bullet trajectories can make you miss, and the same way their bullets can do max damage each time thanks to good randoms).

RtCW I still play multi player almost every day, mostly on the 64 player servers, but yesterday on a 'headshot only' server, where only damage to the head counts. Very good for aiming skills 🙂 (for the RtCW players interested: 64.246.28.89:27961 if I remember correctly)

It's a matter of personal preference. If you like RtCW you play that, if you like a mix of very good and very bad graphics and realism you play MOHAA 😛

After playing Operation Flashpoint, I couldn't even stand to finish either of the two....

I'll go out here.

I think that both RTCW and MOH are excellent games, they both bring their own technological achievements for example, the graphics and level architecture in RTCW for example are outstanding, show me a game that has a better flame thrower or more complicated levels. The AI, sound, feel and music is MOH is just awesome, the score in that game is what carries it.

DOD, Flashpoint, SOF2, AvsP2, NOLF, Max Payne all bring ground breaking advances to FPS's. I think that RTCW and MOH is just another step in the ladder of making a better FPS game. Ok they may not be perfect and will never satisfy everyone but the next generation of FPS games will be even that much better thanks to these pioneers. Just think where we were just 10 years ago, Wolfenstein 3D.

I could never get off the first board in SOF2 ... the one with the burning truck.
Where the heck are you supposed to go?

I agree with NicColt. These games are awesome. I play RTCW:MP every chance I get and then it's UT, MOHAA, Army OPS and then back to RTCW:MP. I've played the single player of each. Both have pluses, but MOH pulled me further in to in the game than RTCW's. Not true for the multiplayer. I tweak my system around RTCW:MP and the other games follow.

Sorry to hear your not happy with the games. Do you want to sell your RTCW? 🙂

I'm hooked on SOF2 random mission generator. Set difficulty to Soldier of Fortune and try finishing any mission in the first 5 attempts! Infiltration is the best, followed by demolition.

PS Graphics absolutely suck for a modern game. No big deal considering the gameplay is highly addictive.

Are we talking about just WWII games or just any game?

I love MOHAA, never really got into RTCW.
