^ Seconded. "Vanilla" NWN has around 40-80hrs gameplay (inc expansion packs), but it is very highly moddable, and was one of the last "PC only golden age" RPG's (where UI was designed solely for 2ft view distance and keyb/mouse only, ie, F1-F12 + CTRL & SHIFT modifiers = 36 quickslots you won't find on any modern "designed for console controller" game). There are hundreds of shorter mods (including any listed required dependencies), and much of the contents of formerly "nwvault.ign.com" is still going strong just under a new site name:-Neverwinter Nights 1 had thousands and thousands of mods. Probably many of them being short games. I'm not sure if any of the websites hosting the mods are around anymore though.
One of the main points of an RPG is length so you can involved in an in depth story. So no.
Mass Effect 1, about 6 hours to be, 8 hours if you're a completionist.
Yeah, this is kinda like asking for an epic novel that's less than a hundred pages.
Bastion or Transistor possibly, not true RPGs but the story and environments are above average at least with solid gameplay and lasts probably about 10 hours max.
Costume Quest might work too. It's a little childish but really quite entertaining if you can just let yourself enjoy it.
I thought this was going to be one of those addictive impossible games...but I beat it in 3 tries :/
and again in another 3 tries with a higher score! 😛
You can easily put 25-30 hours in Mass Effect 1 if you actually do every single side mission and story line. To do it in under 8 you have to skip all dialog, and bypass every side quest. Doable, but pointless.
For the OP, if you have limited time, it just takes longer to beet. I honestly cannot think of how you get a "good story" in a game that is only 8 hours long.
