You can easily put 25-30 hours in Mass Effect 1 if you actually do every single side mission and story line. To do it in under 8 you have to skip all dialog, and bypass every side quest. Doable, but pointless.

I did every side quest, got all the dialogue, explored every planet I could, etc, in ME1. Still about 8 hours. To get 25-30hrs, you'd have to aimlessly cruise around in the Mako just to kill time. 6 hours if you skip through all the dialogue and only focus on the quests that matter. It was a very short game, a criticism that most reviewers noted when it was released and a concern that people asked about before buying the PC version; is it worth the 50 dollar price tag for ~8hrs of gameplay.

Are you serious?!?! 0.0

That is wayyyy too short.

Thats just the main quest, ignoring everything else. Faction quests, the College of Winterhold, Companions, etc, are also only an hour or two.

South park could probably be played in about 10hrs and was entertaining especially if your a fan of the show.

Instead of RPGs you should be playing adventure games. To me the main difference between the two is the absence of combat in adventure. They could be exactly the same game, but where an adventure game would have you throw a bucket of holy water at a vampire to kill it, the RPG would have a lengthy battle. Also one of the aspects of RPG is to see your character/party grow in power over time, which is hard to define and experience in a short game

Another possibility is playing Rogue style RPGs, which you can complete in a short time, but you're likely to fail many times and learn from your experience, like Faster Than Light.

Long Live the Queen.

- You play a role (princess)
- You choose which skills to upgrade
- The story is driven by your choices, but a single playthrough (usually to a hilarious death) doesn't take long

Of course, if you're talking about action RPG's...

SNES American Final Fantasy 2 is only about 8 and a half hours if you skip the optional areas.

But good luck beating Zeromus without any decent Summons.

Temple of Elemental Evil.

I about laughed myself silly when I read this...then I realized (hoped?) that it's probably sarcasm.

I mean, I love the game, but 6-8 hours long? Heck, I had single batters in ToEE last more than 30 minutes. I've probably had some stretch out over an hour, from having to reload and try again.

Ahh, this makes me want to go back and replay it. I wonder if I can get it working under windows 7, and does it have any widescreen mods.

If you're willing to go handheld, the 3DS has a lot of great RPGs that can be played in short chunks. You just don't get much like that on PC or TV top console. Gamers expect, nay, demand them to be long.

GOG gave it away free - Not sure if they still do, but I believe its one of their always free games, and since it's GOG it will work on Win 7.

One of the main points of an RPG is length so you can involved in an in depth story. So no.

Most RPGs get length by forcing unimportant fights with trash mobs to take up time and unnecessary walking to get from place to place, etc. Its perfectly possible to tell a in depth story in under 10hrs. You just can't pull the usual tricks to extend play time.
