Who has one? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Do you find it effective? What did you pay? What brand? Would you do it again?

I been using one at the gym and I enjoy it more for my cardio work out. Plus it seems like I am working more muscles than just straight running or elliptical or something like that.

Hmm, the Concept2's are cheaper than I'd expected them to be. Most of the gyms I've used have had Concept2's (if they had a rower), and they've always been high quality machines. I'm not sure if there are other quality brands or not, cause no one seems to use anything other than Concept2 around here.

We bought a treadmill instead because my wife isn't in the least bit interested in a rower, but I'd have bought a rower if it was only for me...for the same reasons apathy mentioned. That's personal preference, though. It's definitely effective.

I was a rower in college... I spent many hours of my life on these machines in the winter and during hot summer months. Concept2 is the way to go. Some of the cheaper ones have nicer computers, etc....but the key is to have solid resistance, a good slide, and solid chain mechanics. The Concept2 has all 3.

Just remember to study the fundamentals of rowing before jumping on the machine. If you just pull the handles, your form could be really poor. With proper form, you can maximize your workout and get more accurate numbers from the computer. If you're new to rowing, you should shoot for 2 minute 500 meter splits. When I was in training, I was usually pushing 1:30-1:40 splits, but couldn't keep up that pace now...I'm too lazy!

I have a concept2 and am pretty happy with it. Apparently you hook it up to a TV or monitor and download some software pretend you're rowing famous rivers. Never used that feature though.

I wouldn't suggest it. Imho and on my experience, dumbbels and some specific effective exercices would do the work better and cheaper.
