Rower or Recumbent Bike?

Hey. Looking for some advice. I am pretty bored of the treadmill these days and want something new. I am not looking for muscle, just to burn calories. Was wondering what you all would suggest for a 2nd machine, a rower, or a recumbent bike? I don't have much spare money these days, things are tough, so i'm just looking for something cheap to help me burn those extra calories. Something I'd use 45 or so minutes a day. I'm new to all of this, so any advice for me would be great.

I know you "get what you pay for", but I just can't afford anything amazing right now, but I do want to try to get something new just to hold me over for a year or so.

You can get a combo machine that does both, but personally I'd recommend the rower. Works more muscle groups, more intense, better overall workout IMO.
 
While rowing is a better exercise, my guess is that a low quality bike is better than a low quality rower. The pistons in those low quality rowers I'm just not sure about.

Your best bet now, of course and without debate, is a $150 or so magnetic trainer. If you already have a bicycle you can strap it onto that and then you have yourself a stationary bike magnitudes better in feel/quality than any stationary. It won't be recumbent (if you really need that). For $15 you put a road slick on the rear wheel (if it's a mountain bike) and you're golden. I guess I've done somewhere between 100-200 hours on mine. All pro riders use them, too, they are an awesome addition to a bike.
 
That's for the advice so far. Skoorb, I don't currently have a bike, so I can't just get a magnetic trainer. Still not sure what to get, as a low quality rower might not be too great, but I do like the idea of at least working my arms and stuff while at it. But the idea of a recumbent bike, i can do other things (Since I get pretty bored these days working out) I can read or play my DS while using that.

Any other advice? or suggestions on something besides those 2?
 
the shocks fade and leak. Are expensive to replace and don't last. Get the mag.resistance rower.
 
Rower- Concept 2. But it's not cheap. But anything less is just a waste of money. Otherwise get a $300 bike and a $200 mag trainer. About the cheapest you're going to get for something that's going to last more than a month.

Concept 2 is a great rower. I rowed on those for a long time. I really grew to hate those things 😛

I've since tried one of the rowers like the OP is asking about and they're crap. Granted the one I tried was an older version, but it's not rowing at all.
 
If you can get a used Concept2 (even model Bs are decent albeit w/ crappy monitor. Model C and D's are pricey even used), that would really be the best way to go. It's quite possibly the fastest way to wreck oneself including all types of training. No matter your level of fitness, it can challenge you.
