That list is laughable.
<< MISSING METRO AREAS
The metropolitan areas for which crime information is shown are those which meet two criteria. First, at least 75% of all law enforcement agencies must have reported crime statistics, and second, the central city/cities must have submitted 12 months of data in 1998. There are several metro areas that did not meet these criteria in 1998 and thus are not included in the report. Most notably, statistics are not available for the metro areas of Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Kansas City, Memphis, Milwaukee, Nashville and St. Louis. >>
I grew up in The Bronx, NYC. You didn't leave two pennies on your car seat nor did you leave a bag, package, container of any sort in your vehicle b/c if the crackheads saw it, they'd break your window for it. I'm not kidding. Finding bloodied bodies in the woods, by the river in Bronx Park was common too. Crack was openly dealt right in front of the building where I grew up. Gunfights at night b/t rival dealers/cops/deals gone bad was also common. You did not go up to the main drag where the stores are after dark. Every 14-year-old punk kid had a .38 in his belt. Most of them, Jamaican immigrants here illegally...no worries at all as they never got prosecuted, just deported...and they were back within 2 weeks.
About 5 miles from my house was a nice little neighborhood called "149th and 3rd" Also known as the Center of the South Bronx...you know, where Fort Apache: the Bronx was filmed? Nice place...not.
Beford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn not even on the list? Hahahahhahaah! Just as, if not MORE dangerous than what's described above.
99% of all major cities are dangerous. I will most probably never go back to one, if I can help it. Small Town USA for me, thanks.
