Former presidential contender and billionaire Ross Perot is worried that America is a sitting duck for an unnamed foreign invader. In an interview for his new autobiography, Perot said the nation's weak economy has left us open for a hostile takeover—and neither presidential candidate is the man to save the country.

Citing an impending fiscal cliff, Perot warned of disaster. "If we are that weak, just think of who wants to come here first and take us over," the former CEO of info-tech company Perot Systems told USA Today on Monday.

"The last thing I ever want to see is our country taken over because we're so financially weak, we can't do anything," Perot says.

When asked for his take on the presidential race, Perot added, "Nobody that's running really talks about it, about what we have to do and why we have to do it. They would prefer not to have it discussed."

The guy that threw out the "giant sucking sound" (and was right) now sounds off again....and with the collapse of the middle class, propped up by debt and tax cuts (to the tune of negative tax returns), we find that the foundation is ready to collapse bringing down the entire building. And he is right, neither candidate (or party for that matter) has a clue as to what is going on or how to fix it.

Of course, getting rid of the giant sucking sound (both South and to the EAST (China, etc)) would go a LONG way to helping cure what ails the US (and us).

We should have elected Ross Perot 20 years ago.

The man did not become a billionaire by being stupid.

Time to take action while the US still has leverage...we are having an economic war waged upon us and we are just sitting by and taking it...

Take us over? What does that even mean? Are the Chinese going to buy up Exxon Mobil, Walmart and General Motors, then ship tens of thousands of workers over to do their jobs? The plants and other assets will still exist in North America no matter the buyer.

Not to mention that a North American company isn't called North American strictly because it was technically registered on this continent or because its buildings are located in New York, Detroit or Chicago. It's also termed so because the modern infrastructure, the high education of the population that makes up its workers, and the socioeconomic conditions of the land. Those can't be taken over.

The Japanese took over Columbia Pictures in 1989. How many Americans do they employ? A hint: It's a non-zero number.

Who is to say the US won't become a slave labor land to some other "super power" in the future? I suppose that we can just say "forget it...we're not paying the debt back". I understand what you're saying yllus but I think he has a point (maybe not as big as he may suggest) but to simply dismiss it is going the same dismissal of his words earlier and that dismissal is a big reason we are where we are now.

Have you been keeping up to date on our infrastructure? We can not even keep our bridges updated, how are we supposed to fight a war with a major world power?

How many power plants have been built in the past 25 years? Not enough to stop rolling blackouts in peak summer months. If we can not even keep the lights on, how are we supposed to fight a war?

How many steel factories have been closed over the past 30 years?

Do we have the capability to make enough steel to build ships?

How many shipyards have been closed in the 1980s? Dozens. Shipyards all along the gulf coast have been closed and demolished over the past 30 years.

We do not even have enough skilled people that could be put to work building tanks, ships, trucks, guns, planes,,,, if we needed them. Most of todays young people have no idea what its like to work with their hands.

US Navy can, no bluster, take on all the world's navies combined. I am really not concerned about any take overs happening.

We had to buy bullets from Europe during the Iraq war because we ran out (or low). Not a good thing.

You heard about china breaking into the white house computers? The computers that had nuclear launch codes stored on them.

Who said we had to be attacked from the outside? With the launch codes, could china launch our own missiles on us?

Nobody said this had to be a conventional war, what about nuclear or biological?

Source? I've been able to buy surplus ammo from Federal for YEARS now. We have no shortage.

Can't find the original document but I did find a Freerepublic (taboo to many here) post with the contents. It was from 2005 and it was from Taiwan instead of Europe (my memory fails me). As to whether it's true or not, I do not know. I do remember reading it on mainstream media when it first came out though.

US seeks to buy ammunition from Taiwan as stocks run low after Iraq: report
(AFP)

6 January 2005

TAIPEI - The United States is planning to buy hundreds of millions of bullets from Taiwan in the first such deal as its supplies are running low after wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, a report said Thursday.

Citing Taiwanese military sources, the United Evening News said Washington had made the request to acquire some 300 million 5.56-millimeter bullets for rifles for an estimated two billion Taiwan dollars (62.5 million US).

The deal was yet to be finalized pending price negotiations, it said.

An unnamed general quoted by the paper said it would be the first time for Washington, Taiwan’s leading arms supplier, to acquire arms from the island.

In line with its usual practice, Taiwan’s defense ministry declined to comment on the report.

Taiwan produces some 400 million such bullets annually, according to the paper. It added most rifle bullets were manufactured by an arsenal in southern Kaohsiung which has storage problems due to declining demand in the absence of any military conflict across the Taiwan Strait.

The paper also said Taiwan had exported T-91 rifles to several countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Washington Wednesday agreed to sell air-to-ground Hellfire missiles worth 50 million US dollars to Taiwan to help the island defend itself against threats from rival China.

“The US Army has executed a letter of agreement with Taiwan, setting the stage for the sale of more than 400 AGM-114M blast-fragmentation Hellfire rounds under a foreign military sales contract,” US defense giant Lockheed Martin Corporation said.

It would take the company about six months to make the Hellfire missiles ordered by Taiwan.

The missiles will be mounted on Taiwan’s Super Cobra AH-1W attack and OH-58D Kiowa Warrior scout helicopters.

I don't think you guys are reading Perot's comment right. Don't think it's about military.

Most people can not think outside the box,

China aims to be world technological power by 2049

We can not even keep our bridges in working order, or our national debt in check, at the same time China plans on becoming a world technological leader.

Who needs weapons when china can continue sucking American jobs until our economy collapses.

That sucking sound Perot talked about 20 years ago will one day cause the collapse of America. If free trade does not cause the collapse of America, it will contribute a great deal.

Free trade isn't free....nor is it FAIR at all. Just finished a machine for China (yes, we actually made something at my company to be shipped to China). China is going to add a 18% tax on the machine just to let it into the country. Try doing that in the US to Chinese made goods/machines/etc. and see if we don't end up in front of the WTO for unfair trade practices.

That's why we use standard NATO rounds in all our weapons.

Besides, even in WWII when we were pumping out hundreds of naval ships and thousands of tanks and thousands of planes that all didn't just happen overnight. It takes some time to ramp that kind of production up.

To think we need to maintain that level of production capability is why we're going bankrupt.

There was never anything to be taken over. Most parts of America was always for sale or rent to the highest bidder. It's a beautiful system that makes it a bad business decision to attack or harm it no matter your nationality. You can hold onto the idealistic "America" though if it help you sleep at night.

What a lot of people do not understand, the factories that were used to "crank up production" have been demolished over the past 30 years.

At least two shipyards closed in southeast Texas during the 1980s. All that is there now is an empty field.

If you want an example, take a look at this chart

http://shipbuildinghistory.com/today/statistics/deliver1.htm

Merchant ships, 1977, 25 delivered
Merchant ships, 1988, 0 delivered

During the 1980s, the ship building industry was wiped out. The people were laid off, the shipyards were demolished, the trained people that used to build ships 30 years ago are now retiring and dying.
