Actually, maybe it's guys like you who should take it easy. Why does it upset you so much to know that some asians might cringe a little or feel uncomfortable when they see someone imitating Chinese by saing "Ching chong ching chong"?

It irritates me because I'm sick of everyone playing the race card CONSTANTLY and trying to justify any inferiority complexes that they might have.

Just stop crying.

You're the one who's crying...

Hey, I'm not the one complaining about what Rosie said. I'm just telling the sobbing little punks to shut up.

I suggest you do the same.

well said, internet thug. your E-toughness is certainly a breath of fresh air. i thank you and apologize for my sobbing. sadly, those who pretend to be the toughest online, are usually the most insecure.

No, I'm just telling you to stop crying. And when you try to step forward and call everyone a hyprocrite, it just makes you sound like you're in high school.

Sorry, folks, but your language and culture are not inherent, therefore making fun of them is not "racist."

Sorry, this is wrong. Language and culture are not only inherent, they're integral. There's not a lot of multi-language cultures out there.
And practically all racism is not racism at all, but culturism.

You apparently misread my post, or misunderstand the meaning of inherent or both.

Inherent means you are born with it. You are not born with a language or culture. Both are learned. Therefore what Rosie did was biased against culture, not race.

So you kind of agreed with me.

This would be more true if people didn't stereotype people. Even if you're an American born Asian, you will still be stereotyped as speaking like, "Ching, chang, chong." That's why culture and race becomes blurred.

But did a lot of German/French/Russian Americans (that had no accent) get made fun of with people speaking fake German/French/Russian at them with distorted faces?

That's the difference. Squinting your eyes, protruding your teeth and saying "Ching Chong Ching Chong" was the main tactic used on us when people were making fun of my race.

A German/French/Russian guy with no accent would not be made fun of. Because you guys all pass off as white. But a Chinese guy with no accent will still be made fun of in this way.

Only because the German/French/Russian guy is indistinguishable from other cultures. If one were to go around with a shirt that said "I'm German" he very well could get people making fun of him with fake German accents and equating him with a Nazi. And we wont even go into the French jokes.

In the end, making fun of a language and/or culture is NOT racist. Neither are inherent traits.

3. This thread looks like it should be in P & N.

LOL, it appears I struck a nerve.

I have no inferiority complex. In fact, I invite you and your fellow pansies to be creative and mock me any way you like. It won't affect me in the slightest bit.

I was just wondering why do you throw in unneccessary jabs all the time in your post? Like white guy screwing your mother, or calling another poster an emo?

Again, because of your race you are easily identified with a specific culture. One westerners find very alien and tend to make fun of. And that's what they are making fun of, the culture, not the your inherent traits.

Like I said in my previous post, if one has something that readily identifies them with a specific culture, he will be open to comments on that culture.

You've been posting this long in a thread about The View and the statements made on it, and you haven't even bothered to see who's on the show? I mean, it's a 5 second Google search. You could have found out in less time than it took you to post the question.

I don't think its racist but I do find it a bit offensive.

As an asian american myself I too find that quite offensive. IMO its not racist in that she didn't intend on offending anyone, but that type of humor should still be avoided.

what kind of humor? Making fun of someone's accent? get real.

How did you get teased or made fun of for being gay when you were young? Have you ever seen someone trying to be funny and unintentially did something to remind you of this? This is a bad example but imagine a comedian imitating how "fags" flail their arms when being tripped. Would it be funny if this was the main tactic people used to make your life miserable when you were growing up?

You're right, that is a bad example. Robin Williams and shows like Will & Grace made a lot of people laugh "making fun of" gays and the way they talk and flail their arms.

What people are missing is the CONTEXT of the statement. Have some of you even watched the video?

MotionMan

Yes. Read my very first post. I said that I know that it was not Rosie's intent to make fun of asians and that is why I was not offended nor considered it racist. I merely stated that whenever I hear "Ching chong ching chong" it makes me cringe a little.

I don't cringe when the accent is well done or if those were real Chinese words being spoken (but possibly mangled). Mya Rudolph (in Saturday Night Light) sometimes plays a Japanese girl and I think her accent is well done (and comes across as very cute). When Amy Poeler did Yoko Ono, I thought it was hilarious. I don't cringe when I see some effort or talent being used to imitate.

But for some reason, I cringe if the imitation is really bad and use obviously fake words like "ching chong ching chong". I think most blacks won't get offended when that Saturday Night Live guy (who is white and in makeup) imitates Jesse Jackson. But if a white guy dresses up in tar black face to imitate a slave, they might get uncomfortable.

Exactly.

Here is the problem as I see it. While, mocking the language isn't inherently racist, it is disrespectful towards the people. And while many Chinese people probably don't find it offensive, I have no doubt that there are at least an equal number that do. Just go to China and repeat what Rosie said. You'll see how they feel when you gauge their reactions.

Is the humor value of mocking the language worth more than respecting another's culture? I don't believe so. However, it has nevertheless become a widely accepted practice in American society because of the attitude displayed here by some members.

With that being said, Rosie is still a fat fvcking idiot.

Oh yes, you've got me there. Obviously, you know my emotional state from internet posts. It's quite interesting seeing people who are able to deceive themselves so well. More power to you and your emotional bantering. It makes me smile that they're are people out there like you. How is that racist? If I was trying to sound like an asian person, chinese, or whatever, that's the sounds I would make. I don't know how to speak any asian languages, so when they speak that's pretty much all I hear. That doesn't mean I have anything against a particular race because I find their spoken language to be peculiar and hard to understand.

What if I, as a white guy spoke slang (like a black guy from North Philadelphia).
Would that be racist?

When Chris Rock makes fun of how proper white people speak. Is that racist?

In the real world ONLY minorities can be racist..... and get away with it!!

O.J. gets away with murder does the rest or America riot? NOOOO!

A CRIMINAL Rodney King gets a beat down buy some cops......
Innocent (mostly white) people all over L.A. are beaten to death on T.V.

Gotta love America.
