His phone has NFC, which I'm sure he doesn't even know what it is. Me being the great roomie I am have decided to have some fun with this. The 10 pack of NFC tags I ordered just came in today and I'll be programming or flashing or errr whatever you do to them to activate them. And will be placing them in a few spots he puts I know he puts his phone. They're a semi netural color so hopefully he won't notice them. The 1st will be put on his charger dock, programmed to wait 10 minutes then dial his ex girlfriend and auto hang up after 15 seconds. Suffice to say they don't get along at all, and something tells me this won't bring them any closer :D I'm trying to learn Tasker so the rest will take awhile. When I get it figure out though his nightstand will become spots 2-7, I'll put 6 different ones so depending on where he lays his phone a different action will be triggered. I was thinking various semi sexual texts to a co-worker who knows he use to have a crush on her. I believe with Tasker I can have it send a random one, which can only add to the greatness. It would be delightfully awkward if she doesn't say shit to him and he's at work looking at her none the wiser. I hope NFC's can transmit thru the thin cover that's on top of his nightstand.

I have a few other tags but I can't come up with what to do with them yet. So if anyone here has suggestions I'm all ears. Basically I can make them do anything Tasker can do, so that should open up lot of opportunity for my foolishness.

My heart has grown cold after all the pranks he's pulled on me over the years. We go back and forth trying to one up the other. In all honesty this definitely would be a bit much in an ordinary situation, but this isn't an ordinary situation. Seeing how I've almost gotten fired from jobs in the past because of him and his pranks. I consider it fair game :D

Not cool to screw with his ex or his work. Just because he did it to you does not make it any more appropriate for you to do it to him.

I think if you get him fired, you win the game.

So, you're opening him to charges of sexual harrassment and potentially losing his job? You sir, are an asshole.

One would think that, but he has pulled pranks on me in the past that would make getting a person fired look like peanuts. I have a long way to go before I catch up to his level of mischievousness. I plan to win the prank game against him ultimately, but it's going to take A LOT more than this before I can make that claim.

Instead of sinking to his level, you could just stop hanging out with him.

Who cares if you guys don´t approve or if you think the op´s moral compass is bad! I just want to know if this works or not.

If he wants to be nagged to death I´m sure he could just call any female family member or his GF

Don't mess with his job, but everything else is fair game. Why not send a text to his mom that he's coming out of the closet?

We need examples to see if this is truly justified. What are a few of the worst pranks he has pulled on you?

This does sound epic though I would love to know some of the stuff he pulled on you. Sounds like a good read.

Does the phone just automatically do stuff in the presence of an NFC chip? I thought it required running some sort of reader on the phone as well.

Pranks are harmless things like covering every inch of somebody's desk in tinfoil, or filling a car through the open sunroof with packing peanuts.

What you and your friend/roommate are doing to each other isn't pranking - it's harassment.

You and your roommate are both dickheads, Quebert. Sounds like you two deserve each other.

The tags are programmed to do an action. You can do an unlimited number of things with a tag, actually. But AFAIK tagging needs to to actually turned on on the phone.

edit: HERE is a pretty good explanation of how to use them.

That's awesome. I didn't realize how far along some of these apps were. Would be pretty nice to have these tags on say the bedside, car and such to basically switch profiles instantly... instead of relying on location like Tasker tries to and that never worked great for me.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

If my roommate sent inappropriate texts to women at my work, my roommate would shortly have a black eye and his shit on my lawn.

(but think of less harmful stuff to do instead, as I am totally for appropriate mutual pranking. Sending vaguely homoerotic texts to friends, etc)
