Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX), a libertarian hero, last year said that allowing Social Security to exist is akin to permitting slavery. But during an appearance on MSNBC’s Morning Joe today, Paul admitted to the Huffington Post’s Sam Stein that he collects Social Security checks anyway:

just because he disagrees with a program, doesn't mean he shouldn't take it. He's paid into it his whole life after all, might as well get out what he can.

Listened to Ron Pauls last speech today. He started with "I achieved NOTHING since the 70s."

Well duh. When has a right wing libertarian achieved anything useful to society? Well, he did get a few million for his wingnut family.

What a corner the right has painted themselves into.

Since you guys need a superman to take up the mantle of vanguard capitalist may I suggest Donald Trump? At least he succeeded in bankrupting a bunch of companies. At least that's something.

Perhaps Ron Paul, had he the opportunity, would get rid of SS. But he obviously didn't have that opportunity, he was forced to pay into it, and there's nothing hypocritical about now taking funds out of it.

That's what it was designed for.

Yep. After all, there is a difference between the positions one might have on any number of issues, but then there is the law. Ron Paul respected the laws as they stood, paid his portion, and now accepts what he paid for. Having an opinion that he would rather never have paid into it at all is not hypocritical in the least.

I agree with RP on a number of things, and disagree with him on a good number of things as well, but this is a very silly thread.

Personally, I have always considered Ron Paul to good for little else than comic relief. As Ron Paul has run for President in 2004, 2008, and now 2012. And now that Ron Paul no longer holds elective office, in 2012, the question is will Ron Paul run for Pres again in 2016? While Ron Paul again disappointments so many delusional Paul Bots.

As Ron Paul also begs the question on the question of who is real Mr. Libertarian? Which IMHO is Gary Johnson who polled 1% in 2012.
