Care to bet the race then?

Honestly, I dunno , but I don't think what race the contender *is* is as important as what race the contender *isn't*...if that makes any sense.

I'll throw a name out there:

Christine O'Donnell. Female, Irish, was a witch in a former life...I don't see what's *not* to like!

I see.

Probably should go for someone good looking. So I'm automatically crossing off ugly and fat candidates, so Chris Christie is gone. I've heard a lot of progressive radio and they ridicule him pretty hard. Playing "Moos" if they ever play an audio clip from him and stuff like that.

Well that will take care of Hillary being the VP selection for Obama then.

The gender gap between Obama and Romney has ballooned to almost 20 pts. Since women are over 50% of the electorate that's a death knell. Fav as of now has to be Nikki Haley and she's from SC

The only name I haven't seen mentioned here that seems possible is his national campaign chair, former MN Governor Tim Pawlenty. I kind of doubt it, though, because T Paw wouldn't be able to deliver Minnesota (which hasn't voted for a Republican presidential candidate in 40 years) and is kind of bland.

Whoever does it signs away their political career. Only an idiot would affiliate themselves with Romney at this point.

I disagree and it's not Romney that will be recruiting them, it will be their entire political party (GOP in this case). Financial connections, political connections, future advantages etc. will be made available and always have been to most VP nominees. If they survive the nasty political attacks and investigations in a Presidential election they'll be cleared for any future political office.

Interesting question. I don't think Romney can win no matter who he picks, but picking vp candidates is always a fun politics game.

I know Rubio and Christie will be the obvious ideas, but what about David Petraeus? He might be interesting and would give Romney some foreign policy cred. He's also the CIA director under Obama, making it much harder for the Obama camp to try and paint him as incompetent.

I also wouldn't be so quick to toss the idea of Santorum as a running mate away. Santorum has baggage, but he's proving with the results in Ohio and several other states that he's got the ability to get the hardcore right wing of the party energized, baggage or not. Some of his looney ideas play well with the hardcore conservatives who mistrust Romney. The problem is he'd scare away a lot of independents.

Traditionally the presidential nominee selects the vice presidential candidate. The selection needs to be acceptable to the party, but it's the nominee's pick.

Absolutely true, but this election is going to be a bit different in my opinion. I still think Senator Rubio is the most likely choice. He's said previously he's not interested, it might take the whole party to apply the pressure for him to change his mind. All just fun time speculation of course.

Mitch Daniels would be a stellar choice.

Probably so. Why not lose the women's vote as well as the tea baggers vote in one massive swoop....?
Sounds like a plan (not a winning plan, but at least a plan :D ).

Like McCain in 2008, Mitt needs to pull a "stunt".
A real mind blowing stunt.

Doesn't matter he's going to get his ass kicked. Might as well pick Bristol Palin.

He should pick Cantor. Their campaign slogan could be "Weazils R Us!"

Besides that, it'd move the insufferable prick out of the HOR, and Orange man wouldn't be quite so nervous about being knifed in the back...

I disagree. Romney is a total fucking snake and people already know it. You think he's going to last against the Obama campaign? You're fucking high. Obama is still to this day dealing with bullshit that came up during his primaries and he's handling it like a goddamn BOSS. Romney and whomever he picks will be trash after this election.

^This. Ryan/Rubio would be committing political suicide. True conservative hopefuls will have to stay away.
