Time to have this thread. He's won over 50% of the delegates so far.

I'm thinking it won't be any of the other candidates.

It won't be Palin.

Will he go for geographical advantage, or will he play identity politics?

Marco Rubio (sp?) is a two-fer being Hispanic and from FL. He seems a pretty attractive choice if he'll take it. I don't know much about him, any problems with him? Oh crap, forgot he was a Mormon once.

Bobby Jindal? Another two-fer.

Any women out there? Nikki Haley? Another two-fer. Go for the TEA Party vote?

Then I suppose there's that 'budget guy'. Paul Ryan. Not sure if Romney supports his plan. Not sure of Romney knows (yet) if he supports his plan.

Looks like Mitch Daniels is out of a job this year as gov due to term limits.

Personally, I don't know nor really have opinions on favorites.

Just wanted to know what you guys think.

Rubio might not be the twofer that some people think. A recent poll found that his inclusion on the ticket made more Floridians LESS likely to vote for the Republican nominee than more likely. He's also said he isn't interested.

That being said, I believe he will be one of the first people 'ol Mittens asks. They will probably believe that they can turn such a thing around.

Ah, so Rubio is not popular in FL?

I've heard their gov isn't, so I dismissed him (Scott, IIRC).

I wouldn't be completely surprised if he asked Herman Cain. Cain is more solidly conservative than Romney, so he might placate the far right vote. He's a minority, so it might pull some of the minority vote from Obama. He's Tea Party, so he might motivate that demographic. And he's crazy enough that no one really wants him to be President, so no one will kill Romney because they don't want that nutball Cain in the office.

He's not unpopular, but he's not terribly popular either. (49% approval last time I checked)

American politics would be much more transparent and sensible if Obama was his VP, or vice versa. It makes no sense to spend all this money and mental energy trying to make a distinction between two candidates who are factually nearly identical.

That mental energy would be much better spent analyzing why it is that we keep having these meaningless elections where the same type of candidates always run against each other, always make a bunch of promises, and always turn out to be utter liars and basically just all-around wretched pond scum.

There's always some sort of bad joke in it too:

Banker bailout McCain vs Banker bailout Obama.
Skull and Bones Bush vs Skull and Bones Kerry.
And now its Romneycare Romney vs Obommycare Obama.

But no matter who wins, the country never deviates from the script.... the top 1% get richer, everyone else gets poorer, we get more wars, more cancers, less education, more debt, you name it. Nothing gets done about any of it. Come november, anybody who casts a vote for Romney or Obama is the root cause of the problems of this country. A line must be drawn at some point. The cycle must be broken at some point. It is only a question of how bad things must get before the truth is acknowledged.

Calling Cain conservative is like calling Hitler a Bolshevik.

Not knowing this I would have handicapped it 70% chance of picking Rubio/30% anyone else.

Willard's Palin moment could be picking the son of Saint Paul-after all Daddy has been doing an excellent job being wingman to Willard all along.

Cain?? Give me a break-Obama should be so lucky. In addition to being damaged goods he makes Biden look like a Mensa. Him a heartbeat away from the presidency would be as bad as Palin would have been.

I'll bet it won't be a white man.

They'll have to find some way to woo the "non-white male" vote in order to have any chance against Obama.

As things stand right now i'd go with Senator Rubio.

1. He's a Senator in a toss-up State.
2. Hispanic male.
3. Gov. Scott (R) appoints his replacement.

Care to bet the race then?

Hispanic would be very fitting, as Quetzalcoatl (part of hispanic lore) and the Mormon story of Jesus' traveling across the Atlantic works well.

Chris Christie

You think he would accept?

I don't.

Edit: Hmmm. Just read something a bit surprising. Saw a recent article claiming Christie said if Romney won the nomination and asked him to be VP he'd be willing to consider it.

I highly doubt it. Being vice president is not actually a particularly good route to becoming president. Being a failed vice president is a pretty good route to not becoming president though.

I believe that Christie thinks Obama will win in November and is setting himself up to run in 2016. Even if the Republicans win, he's young enough to run in 2020 assuming his heart doesn't explode before then.

Brian Sandoval (R-NV) is a likely Veep candidate either this election or next. He's hispanic and a former Federal judge who just beat the son of Dem leader Harry Reid. He strongarmed the Dem majority in the Nev legislature into not getting pretty much any changes they wanted, save for some last-minute wrangling resulting from a NVSC decision.

Good idea, but I'm not sure if he brings enough electoral votes with him.

Man... I'd love to pick Arnold Schwarzenegger, but he's not US born. Dammit. I guess that I'll pick Jeb Bush instead.

Even with Christie as VP, Romney will almost certainly lose New Jersey. Obama won it by almost 16 points in 2008.

I'm calling it now.

It will be a feisty black female senator that nobody has ever heard of.
