Just Teddy Roosevelt's "big stick" interventionism alone (a clear subversion of the Constitution) made progressive into a dirty word to me and anyone who despises eternal wars.

Medical marijuana is overwhelmingly supported and recreational legalization has a slim margin of approval over disapproval. It also passed everywhere it was on the ballot as a question except Florida where it needed 60% (got 57%) where it will likely pass in the next cycle.

I find the conservative obsession with freedom and small government at odds with the fetish they seem to have for drug prohibition.

Romney had to hurry up and say he's running because he and Jeb Bush's donors overlap significantly. But those same donors are far more loyal to the Bush family than Romney. Also, in 2012, compared to everyone else, Romney was the 'safe' default candidate. With Bush in the running, he definitely is not. This Republican nomination process is Jeb Bush's to lose.

I don't know if you can say Detroit failed because of progressive policies. I imagine Detroit failed because of the nature of capitalism. Auto makers left Detroit or competition shut them down. Any city relying on one particular industry as it's main source of income is bound to fail when that source leaves.

Did progressivism save detroit? No but what progressive ideas were used to save the city? Could conservatism have saved it? It's doubtful.
