America is open to legalizing marijuana... Romney is to socially conservative for this and will not succeed because his attitudes.

Exactly. Romney needs to grow a beard and appear on TV with Snoop Dog and have a big smokeout. It's the only way he can win.:)

No not all of America. If it were it would already be done.

Medical marijuana is overwhelmingly supported and recreational legalization has a slim margin of approval over disapproval. It also passed everywhere it was on the ballot as a question except Florida where it needed 60% (got 57%) where it will likely pass in the next cycle.

I find the conservative obsession with freedom and small government at odds with the fetish they seem to have for drug prohibition.

And my statement still stands: Not ALL of America ...

And Now you: Is that every single American must be in favor of something a rational threshold for enacting legislation or passing a referendum?

I never said "Every single American " had to be in favor. It is still a federal crime in all 50 states.

What is the approval threshold you're looking for then and the rationale behind it? 60%? 70%? 80%?

For people who who favor politicians and a party that is always talking about the "will of the people" and "small government" there is a curious reluctance to endorse the aforementioned "will" when it doesn't align with your personal beliefs.
