Romney once assaulted a classmate at school for being 'different'(read: gay looking)

I think the fact he either merely claims to or legitimately doesn't remember the incident now speaks more about Romney's character than his actions at the time. And I'm not sure which of those reflect on him worse. Clearly it was traumatic enough for the victim and witnesses to remember so many years later.

I don't care about the fact that it happened, but rather Romney's reaction to it. First thing he does is deny it happened, and then once he couldn't do that anymore he issues the most limpwristed apology possible. It's a statement to his character that he's not willing to own up to the incident.

I will not be voting for him.

I agree wholeheartedly that what he did back then is completely irrelevant. However, how he addressed that incident now, since it was brought up, IS relevant and says a lot about his character. "I don't remember it." Yet, it was important enough of an incident that everyone else involved in it remembers it quite well.

"This incident happened 45 years ago, and is something that I regret having participated in. All of us have something we regret doing. I'm just happy that in the ensuing 45 years, my values have..." That would be an example of good character. "I don't recall ever being involved" is poor character. We all know it's bullshit that he forgot.

Reminds me of Reagan..."I must have been out of the loop." 🙄

The fact that you even replied to my post shows the maturity level you're operating at. None of this stuff means shit. The stuff about Romney and this stuff about Obama.

We have serious issues in this country and this is what dominates your thoughts? For fucks sake...

This room is too easy.

The fact that you think smoking weed and hanging out with commies is the same thing as assaulting someone you think is gay says more about your maturity level than anything else.

The fact that you are still going on about this non issue shows more about your intelligence level than anything else.

I'd be more dismissive if I thought Romney had actually changed as a person from the time he was 18.

But this is just one more tale in Romney's list of dickish and subtly mean behaviors.

He looks like he started off as a hotshot, rich prep-school asshole, and I don't see he's changed much.

He could be the 3rd Winklevoss brother from The Social Network.

When the news was making the rounds about Obama eating dog meat when he was 6 years old I wondered if a story would come out about 6 year old Romney fighting with someone over gummy bears or something similar. This is more serious than that, but this is still silly.

His response is weaselly and pathetic, but weaselly and pathetic seems to be his overall MO.

I can't even imagine how silly campaigns are going to be when the Facebook generation starts running for office. "Candidate, it has recently come to light that in 8th grade you posted a status update that your geography teacher should 'eat a bag of dicks' do you have a comment?"

Jeez, I guess you couldn't see my post as being totally facetious. Of course I didn't think it was OK. Mitt is a total douche bag.
I think you misunderstood my question. I knew you were being facetious and clearly didn't think his apology was OK...that's why I asked you...what, if anything, Romney could have said in response to this incident that occurred 45 years ago that would have been an acceptable (OK) response for you?

A rich preppy white kid being an asshole in high school? that happens today, regularly. I don't condone it but at any rate it doesn't matter. There's much bigger/better/more important reasons not to like Romney.

If it is a non-issue that the adult Obama hung out with terrorists and America haters, then how can it be an issue that a teenage Romney did something bad in high school once?

If the teenage Obama was a drug user (he admits it) and that is a non-issue, then why is it an issue that the teenage Romney did something bad once in high school?

I'll repeat: the issue isn't that he did something so many years ago, the issue is of character in how he addressed that information. The difference is (using your example) that Obama didn't say, "gee, I don't remember ever having contact with drugs or hanging out with people who did." "Gee, I don't remember hanging out with those guys who you are accusing of being terrorists."

LOL!

It's all falling apart.

Remember as we get further into the "silly season", "Nothing is ever as bad or as good as first reported." (Marine Corps OPS Officer's saying.)

The Post had 5 independent people recall the story. Also breitbart.com? Please. That's the same guy who was involved in dishonestly cutting up the ACORN and Sherry Sherrod videos to take people's quotes completely out of context and make them say the opposite of what they were actually saying.

Good God - Breitbart's shitty, poorly-written shillery continues even after his death . . . That piece does little or nothing to undermine the original story (which, as I posted above, I don't consider a big deal anyway). My favorite part of the Breitbart piece:

But Lauber, at least according to his obituary in the South Bend Tribune, led an incredibly full life. He graduated from Vanderbilt, became a member of the British Horse Society, had his seaman papers, was a licensed mortician in three states and head chef at the Russian River Resort in California, and even served as a civilian contractor to the troops in Iraq. This does not sound like someone crippled by a supposedly crucial incident back in high school.

While I very much doubt the Romney incident was the catalyst for the good or bad things that happened in Mr. Lauber's life (though it couldn't have helped), this sounds to me like the life of a rather aimless, probably depressed individual who graduated from a fine university, then took a host of jobs beneath his station rather than building a career, before dying at just 57 (assuming he was the same age as Romney - we know Romney was a senior when the incident happened but not how old Lauber was, so it's possible he was even younger than 57 when he died). I sincerely hope Mr. Lauber had a rich and full life but it doesn't sound that way to me.

You obviously do not understand that when you ask a question about a moral issue you have to have morals to understand the answers, no? This is a question that requires a functioning brain to understand, not a conservative defective one. Your only interest here is to deflect the obvious pathological implications that fall on Romney, both from the incident and how he handled it, elsewhere, so that you can maintain your ego without feeling shame.

In short, no answer is possible for you because you feel no shame.

But don't forget this is not your fault. You were shamed so much as a child that if you were to open the door to shame today you would have a psychotic break. You would have to approach it gradually through therapy. Your brain defect is there to protect you from pain.

LOL!

Five independent stories are irrelevant if the stories are not truthfully reported.

....but I really don't except the truth from the MSM.

Clearly this is more important to the libs than the economy, the Constitution, or any other actually IMPORTANT issue.

Well, since I'm liberal, and per my original statement I'm not concerned about this, your statement that this is "more important to the libs" is clearly non-factual; since I'm damned sure you haven't met every lib in the country or gotten their opinion or statement concerning this topic. But thanks for playing.

"limpwristed" - good one
