Youre just a bad gamer! You cheat, you complain, dont play games anymore and definitely dont review them.
Complain? The
OP ASKED ABOUT THE GAME
You don't think it's buggy, go ahead and join an online battle - 9/10 you will crash out.
Try to install the game with a DVD drive, 7/10 it will crash out the install
Hell, I even linked to the official TW forums where mostly die hard TW fans are rallying up a list of needed fixes in the patch - and this is right after being released!
Cheat - yea I cheat in a game if THE DEVS MADE THE GAME SO YOU CAN CHEAT - THEY PROGRAMMED THEM INTO IT!.... You make it sound like I hacked the game code to put in cheats. Ever use a cheat in your life? If you didn't you waste your money on a game (if
you even buy it)... For example, GTAVC cheats can change different parts of the game's look and feel. However, in this case - they botched the implementation of cheats (that THEY put it in the game). And, FYI, I haven't even cheated in the game thus far. ($18k/turn, 15+ provinces, 3rd heir) However, the cheat system is fuxored. It is just one more aspect of the game that the
OMGGOTYOMG fanboys don't bother to point out to people wanting to buy the game.
And since you
think I don't have any experience reviewing games, here is the Gamespy review:
While Rome is a triumph in many ways, there are a couple of nagging issues that keep a great game from being the next instant classic. Chief among them is the enemy AI on the big map. While the AI makes for a capable opponent on land, the game is not very good at managing its affairs at sea: your opponents never seem to make very many amphibious landings, despite building up big navies, and rarely go on the offensive from the sea. On the normal skill level, your opponents never even blockade enemy ports, nor do they go out of their way to lift blockades of their own ports, regardless of how big their navy is. The enemy capital is often left with only token resistance, despite its importance.
Most frustrating of all is when the AI is on your side. During huge massive battles with multiple armies, it's not uncommon for your reinforcements to be controlled by the AI as they storm in from another part of the map. That's very cool. What's not cool is helplessly watching one of your generals, an important named character, rush his cavalry alone into a waiting phalanx of spearmen. Suicide! Given how important these characters are to the big picture, couldn't you at least be able to tell the AI to protect them? During one massive assault on Rome I lost three of my four generals because the AI used them stupidly. Great, now I had a huge empire, but nobody left to run it!
Rome has awesome gameplay but lacks that final level of polish. One bug caused my largest fleet to get stuck in a coastal area with no place to move to and no way to scuttle it. Also, after marching onto Rome and taking control of the senate, I was greeted with the generic "faction eliminated" message. What? No video of my troops triumphantly marching through the city gates or beating down the senate doors? No special message with a picture of the Roman people throwing roses at my feet? Even a text description of some sort of palace orgy would've been cool.
If someone asks a question here about a game they are gonna spring $40 on, they'll want the downside. If he only has a DVD drive and goes to install it after buying, well guess what - he isn't going to have a too enjoyable experience.
And I don't know wtf you are talking about "don't play games anymore"..... apparently you think you know me, son?
Edit: I forgot to mention that Activision has a "one patch policy" goal.... So basically developers get one real good chance at patching the problems... so it will either take a while and hope to get them all in one swoop, or it may come out sooner and may miss some (possibly ones that are found later)
I expect an expansion pack sometime year - maybe summer or fall 2005 so even after a patch, hopefully they will refine some old and introduce some more features....
