roger federer is GOAT. no question with this win (if he wins).

i'm a huge federer fan but he never had to go against a really good player until nadal...and nadal has outplayed federer in head to head matchups.

good thing Fed finished that match so quick. it's pouring rain now, would've had to postpone it

this.

I think Federer is the shit, but this win was rather... "cheap," being that he didn't have to get through Nadal, who consistently owns him on clay.

I wouldn't call it cheap. It's not like Nadal intentionally lost to Soderling. And given that Nadal has cleaned up so easily on clay it was quite an accomplishment for him to get taken out so handily by a relative no name.

And saying Federer never had to go against a really good player until Nadal came along is just BS. It's like saying Tiger doesn't have to play against any really good players. Good as Nadal may be, I don't see him sticking it out and taking as many slams as Federer.

Oh and record-wise Nadal may dominate Federer on clad, but c'mon now, most of their matches have gone the distance. It's just been a point here or there that's made the difference -- there's definitely some skill involved in that, but its not ownage.

Nadal's very physical type of play is taking its toll. He has so many injuries at such a young age. I dont know if he will have a long career like Roger will.

Roger will easily retake the no 1 spot soon.

I agree that Nadal's time at the top will be relatively limited; however, I do not think that Federer will return to the number one spot.

Soderling just didn't have in on Sunday aand the match was very one sided... =(

Rafa's right knee is bothering him and the doctors don't know why yet so he may have a short career but I hope not.

Yes, part of Federer's legacy is his ability to stay healthy and compete in every major. If Rafa misses Wimbledon as rumored, Federer will obviously be #1. I don't think it will be the last major Rafa misses.

federer beat nadal on clay in madrid just few weeks prior lest we forget.

nadal has owned fed of late, but like other people have pointed out, nadal's physical game may be starting to take its toll. federer effortless style has allowed him to stay relatively injure free and his game is built for longevity. i'm hoping federer can take wimbledon too!

Its nice that many of tennis' greats consider Federer the 'greatest', but he needs a few more grand slams to turn a judgment call into undisputed fact for many years to come. A french open win on clay over a healthy nadal sure wouldn't hurt his legacy either.

Well Wimbledon is just around the corner and if Federer takes that, I really would find it hard to argue against him as greatest ever, whether Nadal is there or not.
