Hes such a pretentious dick, advocating the whole "cosmopolitan authenticity" as chique bourgeois bullshit.

What he doesn't realize is that 50% of the crap he eats is just whatever the poverty stricken citizens could afford, and if they could, they would rather have a big juicy pizza.

you sure u weren't just drunk and watched bizarre foods and no reservations back to back?😛

meh

Wrong

The "crap" is what the poor people took - all the "nasty bits" and made them into something that's tastes great. He's anything BUT pretentious. He's arrogant, insensitive, opinionated, cynical, jaded ... in other words, a typical NYer who's been at both ends of the spectrum. He refuses to change, whether it be smoking or cussing or his frank opinion about places like Iceland and Romania - pretty much why he gave the finger to the Food Network.

I've met and talked to him once at a local charity engagement where he spoke of his life.

Anthony is actually quite a really nice guy, somewhat restrained (shy?) in person -- even when he stood up to talk he had that effect on me. You do notice some bits of this even in his shows. That tells me some of his "arrogance" on TV could very well be scripted.

Besides, anyone who takes genuine interest in a Joby Gorillapod while i set it up to take a picture of my family with him can't be all bad. Most people would just look at me weird!

Spot on. Even though he's been in rehab for alcohol you see him drinking his ass off in the shows. He lives by his own rules and won't change for anyone.

As far as what he eats, he basically just goes where his guide recommends and avoids tourist traps. The thing I don't understand is how he can still taste sht after smoking for so long.

Lord knows what you're getting that from. I don't think there's a chef on television who's less pretentious than Bourdain. Even if he wanted to be, he couldn't - millions of copies of his life story are in print and they don't exactly paint a glamorous picture of him.

Oh, and the kid was annoying. But at ten, who wasn't?

What the hell are you talking about? :hmm:

This is what I was going to post. Juding from what everyone's saying he's kind of a dick, and got talked up/down to by a 10 year old?

We had dinner with the guy (a big group of us) and he was very far from being a dick. He was super nice and did not get annoyed with all of the food nerds asking questions and taking pictures. Super nice guy actually.

So it sounds like he got talked into doing the typical chef asshole persona for his show?

I don't watch his show, so I don't have an opinion, but he apparently comes across as an asshole enough on the show for it to bother people.

The first link hates on Bourdain (and Ted Nugent) for hating on fat people. The blog is about fat females & food ... go figure. Yes, I hate fat people too, I'm an asshole.

The second link is Bourdain commenting on his own writing

Third link calls him "a likeable asshole", no content

Fourth link is angry because Bourdain said that "most disgusting thing he's ever eaten was a Chicken McNugget" and that he's a jerk, etc.

I suggest you watch his show 🙂

wouldn't surprise me. I head one one of the cooking shows chef Ramsey is not as bad as they make him out to be on hells kitchen or his other shows.

he's a whole lot better on his BBCA shows. he'll still go off at times though.
