Wasn't the concern in Missouri that the bill would criminalize the act of helping someone get a abortion, even if the abortion is performed outside Missouri?

That legislation covered anybody who "aids or abets" an abortion out of state. Like if a person Googled "how to get an abortion out of state" and results were returned somebody could sue both Google and the ISP.

How I am reading this article, that provision was dropped before it got voted on by the House.

https://news.stlpublicradio.org/gov...-further-tightening-restrictions-on-providers

One provision that did not make it onto the bill was an amendment that criminalized the act of helping someone receive an abortion, even if the abortion itself is performed outside of Missouri.

No, the party only had two real candidates that year, Hillary and Bernie the socialist, and Bernie was never supposed to do as well as he did. He was supposed to be an "also ran" to create contrast for Hillary's moderate views for the GE.

Hillary was a deeply flawed and disliked candidate that was going to be polarizing, and the party cleared the way of any meaningful opposition.

The party gambled on all in on her and lost.

Very few were actually excited for her, but voted least bad option.

Really, the only reason the SC is even 6-3 is bc Trump was historically incompetent, else a more traditional R would have likely won reelection and we'd be looking at a youthful 7-2 court, and possibly Thomas retiring to cement any chance in decades to make changes.

Stop making excuses for a poorly run party that can't deliver even when given the majority vote.

Stop making excuses for electorate that didn't bother turning out to vote even when it was clear that result would be justices who overturn Roe on SCOTUS. They were warned, they didn't care. Nobody cares about their primary butt-hurt, but they'll have to live with the results of their decisions to stay home for decades. Anti-abortion voters didn't care about their candidate's much deeper flaws, they turned out to get results and they got them. That's how politics works, if you lose, it doesn't matter why or by how much. You lose.

I can hear her brow furrowing from here!

The most annoying part of this statement is that she apparently expects us to believe that she's been hoodwinked over and over again. Apparently she wants us to believe she's not dishonest or unprincipled, she's just really, really stupid.

Yes, the proposition here is that either she is a total moron or thinks everybody else is to fall for this. Fuck you very much Maine voters who ticket split.

So this was leaked by someone in the Alito camp, or one of the other 4 votes that is "solid" for repealing RvW. TBH, my money is on Thomas. They leak now for a few possible reasons:

1) Someone in the 5 votes to repeal is wavering. This forces their hand and locks them in or they are seen to be swayed by popular opinion.
2) Gets the splash out earlier than July so more time for the electorate (that will still be allowed to vote) can forget about it.

Make no mistake, this opinion isn't as narrow as some are making it out to be. Obergfell, and a few others are clearly targeted by some of the language. And a guaranteed total nationwide ban will be on the agenda in '24 should elections go a certain way.

Welcome to Christo-fascism

That's the reason politicians buy votes, it' gets voters interested. The dems are setting up for the mid terms with chatter about forgiving student loans. I expect that will get them a pretty solid turn out from those that are deeply in debt from making poor decisions.

Tough to win issues when winning 57% of the vote loses seats

After the uprising of the 17th June
The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee
Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government
And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier
In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

I like how conservatives are so gaslit they perceive the government doing things for the governed as buying votes. Except tax cuts. That isn't buying votes unless Democrats do it.

Education is not a poor decision, ever! You should try to get one someday.

GOTTA LOVE FOX.... HAHAHA
First ignoring, then deflecting to Hunter's notebook, then... the realization that YES THEY TOO must abide by this potential ruling.

GEE WIZ...
Now, when Shannon Bream gets raped by Tucker Carlson, she will be forced to give birth to that commie baby.
And GEE WIZ...
When Laura Ingraham gets raped by Sean Hannity, she too will be forced to give birth to that bastard baby.

FUNNY....
How republicans have always used these social issues to win elections, yet to NEVER IMAGINE it ever actually happening. BUT NOW.... IT HAS....
Be prepared, it will be the Fox views who will cry the loudest, and cry WE NEVER REALLY THOUGHT THIS WOULD ACTUALLY EVER HAPPEN.

no, people with money will always find ways to obtain abortions while shouting from the rooftops against it. This will ONLY affect the poor

Why leak this if it were going to happen anyway in June? I can think of three possibilities.

The leak will be the decision but those slimy conservatives will put off the decision until after the election. Progressive warning.
Possible fake out and conservatives will fall back on 15 week ban and in comparison it won't seem so bad.
Major SCOTUS in fighting.
One more possibility. If you have bad news what do you do? Get it out early hoping people forget by Nov or not as energized to vote.

How about we just expand the court, one seat per state, plus one for DC. Get over this shit for at least a few centuries.

Also Alito's opinion says that the real answer to this is democracy, with citizens voting in representatives to enact their favored policies. Oh also Alito has no problem with those elected representatives gerrymandering districts so badly that the opposition can never gain power.

What a stirring appeal to the power of democracy - it's the noble solution to this problem but feel free to rig it so you can never lose.
