Finally got this last night for X360; played for a few hours (my fingers are sore!) and I think it's great. I'm a bit sick of Pour Some Sugar on Me now though. :D

I did notice a bit of lag when playing, particularly in one of the faster songs. Does anyone have the game and if so, have you encountered lag at all? Any way to fix it?

are you talking about the framerate is slowing down? or input/sound lag?

if it's the latter then it's your tv that is lagging and probably lags for all games, you just don't notice it because you are used to it and you don't have to be precise. i know that rockband has actual audio/visual calibration settings in it for this exact reason, i'd be surprised if rocksmith did not have those options.

it could also be introduced thorugh your avr if you are using one. i know my avr has a "video" and "gaming" mode, as well as my projector, and they both make noticeable differences when it comes to input lag. same with the tv i used to play on, so check to see if your display has a game mode.

and i was 100% oblivious to input lag and didn't even know it existed until like 4-5 years ago when i started going to local tournaments for street fighter 4. the tv's we played on at the tourneys did not have lag and i was missing moves left/right and moves just weren't coming out, because at home i was used to doing things earlier because i was playing on a DLP for so long and was just used to the lag.

but now i can notice input lag VERY easily when playing on a laggy setup since i'm so into fighters now and have been playing on "lagless" setups for a long time now.

only fix I know is to get the pc version? :whiste:

For serious? Now that I have the cord, I would consider doing so, but it would be nice to figure out a fix for the version I have. :p

I'm guessing input lag. When I strike the note it does not react instantly in the game as I would have expected. In something like Pour Some Sugar on Me, I did not notice it at all, but then I played some other song (is there a band called James?) and I noticed it there since the pace was higher.

I never noticed it in Knack, Resogun, or FIFA, but maybe it's because they are different types of games.

There was some calibration at the beginning, but maybe I need to run through that again. How do you create a lagless setup?

I haven't played the 2014 version, but the original had a calibration setting IIRC. I messed around with it quite a bit and got bored (I can already play guitar and the song selection wasn't terribly interesting for me). My roommate was completely new to guitar and loved it, though.

You might also just be perceiving it as lag because you're not used to the exact timing required and don't have the hand / finger dexterity to perform those actions. Do you have any prior guitar experience?

I stink, badly, so it's useful for me. I need all the help I can get. :D

I'm playing bass and I have been playing randomly for a long time, but I suck and I've never really learned to play properly. That could be the case I suppose, but it did seem like the game was not reacting in time.

well the input lag is all based on your device. tvs and projectors etc, they all just have different input lag on them based on the panels in them. if your tv is laggy, you can't really correct it unfortunately. input lag was a major factor in what tv and projector i bought.

what tv are you running it on?

you may not notice it in other games simply because you are used to it. as i mentioned before on my dlp, i had been gaming on it since 2004 and had no clue input lag even existed, let alone on my tv, for over 5 years. but once i knew about it, i saw exactly how laggy it was. and by "laggy" i'm talking a few frames in a 60fps game, but that can really be felt in games that you need precision.

EDIT:

check out these 2 videos i did to compare my "lagless" setup to my DLP. and by "lagless" it is just one of the lowest rated input lag displays there are out there, and it's the standard now used at all major fighting tournaments (and is known as the "evo monitor" as the nickname because of that).

DLP - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qf4qv5IFph8
ASUS Monitor - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZO67lmKJFHw

as you can see, my DLP is a full 2 frames laggier, and that video is in 30fps, so it is between 4-5 frames behind my "lagless" setup in a 60fps game. so for a fighter, you can see that 4-5 frames (which is tiny in terms of just time) is a pretty significant delay especially in a game that requires very precise timing and fast reactions.

I'm on a projector; the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 5020UBe: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/...ieve+the+session.&Failed_Page=/jsp/Product.do

I can definitely imagine feeling the lag on a fighting game; that would be super annoying.

KT

Edit: those videos are awesome. Very interesting. That is a crazy difference!

If you haven't already, feed your audio direct to your receiver, instead of going through HDMI. That should eliminate most of the lag it sounds like you are talking about. Since you are running a projector, that hdmi lenghth is probably pretty long. You will have to do alot of tinkering to get your audio/video to sync up with your playing.

yeah it appears your projector is somewhat high in the lag department. check this link out.

http://www.projectorcentral.com/epson_5020_vs_panasonic_ae8000.htm

Input Lag. We saw noticeably more lag on the 5020UBe in Cinema mode -- 84 milliseconds (5 frames) -- than we did on the AE8000. Considering that the AE8000 itself measures a pokey 67ms of delay (4 frames) in Cinema, this isn't much of a victory for the AE8000, either. On the other hand, the AE8000 has a game mode which measured 34ms (2 frames) while the 5020UBe's Fast processing is one full frame slower at 50ms.

the funny thing is, the ae8000 is the projector i have heh. as you can see from their test, the ae8000 goes from 67ms to 34ms from cinema to game mode. that is nearly half.

it looks like your projector has a fast processing mode as well though which cuts it from 84ms to 50ms. you should give that a go and see how it feels.

and remember, if you can't notice the delay, then that is all that matters. even though my projector isn't quite as lagless as my asus monitor is, i can't notice any perceivable differences on it for the most part. i don't use my asus monitor at all anymore and haven't in nearly a year and a half, but i bet if i did go back to playing on it i might notice a SLIGHT delay. but i've been playing sf4 and killer instinct no probs on my projector and not noticing anything.

also, check your avr to see if there is a game mode. mine has one and that also makes a boatload of a difference.

actually the hdmi from his 360 to his avr is probably really short. the distance of the hdmi from the avr to the projector is irrelevant because none of his sound is going throgh that.

i'm pretty sure if you put both your avr and projector in the "game" mode they have, that you will notice a difference, both in sound (due to the avr settings) and video.

Great stuff, thanks. I will try that tonight.

You are correct, the cord from my 360 to my receiver is extremely short since they are right next to each other.

I mean this is not the end of the world, at least not right now at the levels I am playing on, but I would like to make it better if possible.

Appreciate the help. :)

yeah np, good luck and report back with results!

input lag was a major reason i actually picked the ae8000 when i was looking at projectors because i knew i'd be doing a lot of gaming on it, especially fighters.

Well I was not really planning on playing many games when I bought this, I was focused on it more for movies (which the Epson seemed to be pretty highly rated for), but of course now I have all these games I want to play. :D

We also have a pretty crappy selection up here, so it was harder to find a variety of projectors. I'm happy with mine overall, but yeah, it would be nice if it did this a bit better like yours does.

Wasn't talking about the 360 to the receiver. I was talking about the receiver to the projector, but ya I hadn't considered that the audio wasn't being fed to the projector itself but rather straight out to speakers from there...however I had zero luck over HDMI even with turning off processing on my receiver. Imagine mileage will vary.

If the cord to the projector is 10-15-20 ft , you will always have lag between what you play and whats on the screen.

He's not as bad as the guy talking how Pachino, DeNiro, and Nicholson are terrible because he's only seen Meet the Fockers, Any Given Sunday, and Anger Management.
