What you need is a lot of Gogol Bordello

Unlike a lot of what has been posted (one-off songs featuring a violin), GB's core is the guitar-violin-accordion trio and they'd be nothing without Sergei (the violinist). They also put on a kickass live show.

Although, if you wanna get pedantic, they are a punk band more than a rock band.

They also have a consistent working relationship with Amina, a string quartet that releases albums on their own, but has also played on every Sigur Ros album and accompanied them on every tour except for their very first album. For orchestrated post-rock, it simply does not get any better than Sigur Ros, period.

Cursive had two CD's with a full-time cellist, which were both fantastic: "Burst and Bloom" and "The Ugly Organ."

Recently discovered Vitamin String Quartet. Looks like they do covers of rock songs, like Linkin Park (What I've Done), Switchfoot (Dare You To Move), MCR (Helena, The Ghost Of You), Coldplay (Clocks), and Avenged Sevenfold (many songs). Sounds pretty sweet too, currently listening to A7X's Burn It Down in string form.

The Flobots. Local Denver group. They're a mix of hip-hop and rock with strings. Pretty good stuff.

Don't forget the trumpet
I just heard one of their songs on the radio yesterday (No Handlebars) so I checked them out. I like it.

Check out Simon House. I'm only familiar with his work with Hawkwind but' he's played with alot of different bands/people.

I saw a band called Star People a few years ago that had a female violinist that was very good. She only went by the name Star Girl but i think i read somewhere that she also was part of Cheryl Crows touring band.

Nice. Don't get the dark comment other than they look like celtic invaders.

One of the utube comments: "Gotta love white boys with rhythm! Long live Albannach."
