FUCK! I forgot about that bullshit. What the hell was that? It's like there was an entire subplot that involved those kids that they never bothered to tell us about. It's like they shot a five hour movie and then realized that they had to cut it down to 2 hours.
 
What confused me is how the English "army" all of the sudden cheering for Robin Longstride when for the whole time they knew him as Robert of Locksly. It seems like they just wrote that in there so that King John could declare him an outlaw....

The plot had more holes in it than a brick of swiss cheese.
 
so if it is that bad, I wonder when Ridley Scott will come out and make protestations to the effect that the theatrical cut was released without his approval and despite his best efforts to allow such an affront to his work.

....and if the inevitable director cut will be that much better.

I like Ridley Scott, quite a bit actually. But he does have a habit of bitching about how his films that are panned in the theater do not represent his vision, and almost always releases a Director's Cut (that actually is surprisingly better).

I definitely thought this was the case with Gladiator. The theatrical cut was, eh, a decent action flick but nothing special.. then I saw the director's cut and enjoyed a bit more fleshed out version of the movie.

Black Hawk Down is one of my favorite movies, I am friends with a guy that got shot there and is portrayed in the movie. I never knew he was there until I was reading the book "Black Hawk Down" and got to the pictures pages and saw him. I was like "Holy shit!!!"

I own the extended cut, but the only time I saw the theatrical was in the theatre so I'm not sure I remember what's different. 🙁

I do know that the extended Hawk includes more character information. We get additional details during the first act, as the film sets up the various Marines in greater detail. It also adds more of those kinds of scenes during the battles, and we find a bit more action.

.. is what I could find from a quick google.
 
1) Robin uses a bow the first 10-15 minutes of the movie and ONCE at the very end. He's a freaking archer.
2) Robin and fellow archers (Little John excluded) pick up swords, put on armor and all of the sudden they're kick ass knights, no training required. The fact that they didn't even own swords previously lends credence to the fact that they had no real training with it.
3) They miraculously fight from horseback in full armor with said swords. Again, something you don't just pick up out of the blue.
4) Mirian in full armor fighting from horseback.

From the beginning the story felt like a Braveheart wanna-be with a few minor touches of Robin Hood.

I have the BD release...not sure if that is extended cut, but that is quite decent.

Anyhoo, is there actually a character for your friend? A lot of the characters in BHD are composites based on the real soldiers, simply b/c there's far too many individuals to portray in a single film.

Eric Bana's character supposedly is a composite of some 5 or more individuals that were featured in the book.

Mike Goodale. Yes the movie is a combination of characters, but there is a dude wearing his name in the movie. I dont think he has speaking roles, just sort of an extra. At least this is what some other guy that knows Mike said, so it could be wrong.

Mike has been on the History channel telling his story. He is extremely modest. I never even knew he was in Somalia until I was reading the book. The character Mike Goodale in the book never stuck out at me, since its not that uncommon of a name. I just assumed it was someone else since he never said anything about it to me. Then when I was flipping pages in the book and there were some pics...there he was.

I asked him if that was him and he was like "Yeah I was there, got shot in my ass!" He was awarded a Bronze Star for gallantry. The guy is one tough SOB.

And what the hell were the kids doing stealing seed grain? What are they going to do with it? Who's going to buy seed from a bunch of kids hiding out in the forest. They can't plant it and I don't recall them owning a mill grind it.

Fuck... this movie just sucks.
