I bet you are a shitty driver.
The OP is gay?
I LOL at work.

Truest words I've read on the internet all day. :thumbsup:My guess is that there wasn't as much space as you thought. I would also wager that you drove along at 10 under after the stop sign. I only say this becuase it's almost a certainty that people who rush to pull out of their driveway drive extra slow. If not, the guy was a dick.
...
I've noticed this too. In fact, these people are coming to a near panic stop only to leave 3-5+ car lengths and then idle up to the person. They also do it during stop and go rush hour traffic.
Ugh, I've definitely seen that before, and I've seen it enough that I've dubbed it the "red light crawl." I just don't get why people cannot come to an initial complete stop where they actually want to stop.
Although, it is fun to mess around with the southern drivers. They really don't seem to like it when you stop right behind them. Apparently, there's this crazy belief that there will be this crazy multi-car pile-up if you don't leave multiple car lengths. So, when I do stop directly behind them, they almost always move up a bit so they have that safety buffer. Unfortunately for them, I don't leave it at that, and I'll usually move up again just to bother them.![]()

WTF is wrong with you? People just like this, are exactly what's wrong with our society today.
You are essentially a real-life troll.
I just don't get why they would need to keep so much space between the cars. 1 car length is plenty and probably more than enough.
Yeesh, I was only joking. I've done it once or twice just to see if they would actually move up again. I don't like contributing to the "red light crawl", so I prefer to avoid moving up unnecessarily.
Although, now that you've professed as to being so butt-hurt over something so minor, I will now make it my mission to troll the shit out of every goddamn Southern driver that I encounter.
When I lived in New York, I never noticed people leaving so much space. They would maybe leave a car length at max, but even that wasn't common. That's why it was so surprising to see down here, but what's worse is that the only reason they do it is a "what if?" "What if the car behind me doesn't stop and I get hit!"
How many people here have been rear-ended at a stop light? I never have been nor have I even had a close call, and I've been driving for over a decade. In other words, if I were to do that, I could be inconveniencing someone for something that chances are will not happen.
Sounds like OP didn't merge properly... The other guy was definitely not being helpful in letting you merge or adjusting his speed to help you (either speed up or slow down). But it sounds like you didn't take the move when you could have or didn't try to sync up with the traffic speed get behind or in front of the guy
Signals are for alerting other drivers what you intend to do. When you see people entering the highway you already know they intend to merge into traffic, so why do you think they NEED to signal? Does someone in a left turn only lane NEED to signal?Did you have a signal on OP? In my younger days if a merger didn't have a signal on I wouldn't move for them. Figured if they couldn't make the effort to put a blinker on I didn't feel like making the effort to change lanes or adjust speed.

I hate hate hate it when people leave ridiculously excessive amounts of space between their cars and the car in front of them.
Yeah I get the whole leaving enough room in case someone hits you from behind, etc, but when you leave 2+ car lengths, you are just being a dick by making the line longer than necessary. I'm always tempted to just pull into that open space, but I never do b/c I'm afraid of the dumbass closing the gap and hitting me, which would probably make me at fault.

I'm sure there are laws on the books that say legally you have to signal in these situations, but not sure if they are universal. :hmm:
Wow, I really laughed out loud when I read this. I love messing with people by just rolling up a foot or two at the red light, just to see if they creep up behind me to keep the same gap. I crack up when they do. I never imagined that we might be trolling each other.

Honestly, I don't even think that the majority of people who do leave large spaces like that is doing it for safety reasons. I just get the feeling that they are either 1) terrible at depth perception, or 2) selfish dicks that just think they are badass for leaving so much room for themselves.
So if someone isn't redundant they are lazy? They don't NEED to signal, just like I don't NEED to yield since they know I have right-of-way (at least in MI). Point is, if you can't make the effort to use a signal, why should I make the effort to adjust for you?
...
Of course, if there is any ambiguity a signal should be used. I'm talking about when there isn't any ambiguity. Turn only lanes or entrances that aren't also exits....
There are some crazy exceptions to this. We have a lot of combined on-ramp/off-ramps, but one of them is an on-ramp from an interstate that goes to an off-ramp to a totally different road (normally, the on-ramp and off-ramp both come from and go to the same road). If I see someone coming up the on-ramp, I usually always move over ahead of time even though they may be keeping on the ramp to get off onto the other road (I've done it plenty of times).
Personally, I always use the turn signal. It doesn't really hurt anything.
...
Your correct that you would be at fault if you were in an accident when you had to slam on the brakes right when you went into the lane with no room and they hit you from behind.
One car length is not plenty and is most likely tailgating. The faster you go the more room you need and two car lengths is not enough room at a high rate of speed if you need to slam on the brakes.
I am merging onto two lane 50mph freeway type deal. There are no cars in left lane, one vehicle (this guys) in right lane. He is absolutely zooming by. I keep going to merge but notice him speeding and slow to a near halt to allow him to pass me and I will just merge after him. He slows down in order to beep at me and flip me off as he passes by. I go into right lane and continue driving. I am going 40mph. He slows down, gets right next to my car, and my window and his were down. He yells, "HEY GUY." I hear a popping noise and after feeling a spray of fluid realize I have been spat at by him. Then he cuts in front of me and starts slamming on breaks and stuff. All the while I am not fucking with him because I don't want him to hit me, throw something at my car, anything. I never escalate stuff while driving. Ever.
Jeez, you really are a buzzkill Pizza. If you want to enter a contest measuring drag forces vs momentum of the beer bottle, please, be my guest.
You are supposed to yield when merging...they don't have to 'let you in'.
Two wrongs here IMHO.
^^ Anime avatar. yup.
Buzzkill?? There's no way there's any buzz in all the bullshit. The best that's going to happen is a Bppppbbbbppppt.Jeez, you really are a buzzkill Pizza. If you want to enter a contest measuring drag forces vs momentum of the beer bottle, please, be my guest.
Lol confirmed you don't know how to drive. Slows down and then stops when merging. Good plan.
