To those folks using an older version, there's a new version of RivaTuner out which includes some nifty new settings that the 29xx drivers support and a more flexible method of forcing specific refresh rates for specific resolutions and colour depths.

I tried RivaTuner last week - and it totally fvcked up my graphics settings - I had some really bad visual effects going on (textures smearing and blending, etc, when they shouldn't have been). And NO, I didn't change ANY settings.

I ended up uninstalling it, uninstalling the NVIDIA drivers, then going through the registry and manually deleting ALL references to RivaTuner, NVIDIA drivers, AND all of the video card settings (which was no easy task).

There's a nifty new feature which allows you to control the colour levels of the card (gamma, contrast etc) via low level (like PowerStrip does) rather than using the drivers. If you have any games that flick back to dark settings even if you raise nVidia's gamma control panel setting (eg GLQuake, Quake2, Microsoft Combat Flight Simulator 1), the low level gamma setting will completely fix this issue.

I do know that some of nVidia's drivers have trouble "remembering" gamma levels in games which don't directly control the gamma themselves.

Odd; Rivatuner is probably my favorite tweaker out there. True, if you mess with the wrong settings, you can really cause problems - changing the wrong settings prevented a computer from booting to Windows. What videocard were you using?

GeForce 4 Ti4200 - Gainward.

And like I said - I changed NOTHING. The problems even persisted after I uninstalled RivaTuner and it's settings. It wasn't until after a full sweep of the registry and video settings and uninstall/reinstall the video drivers that I got things back to normal.

It sounds like you may be doing "auto installs" of the Detonator drivers by double-clicking the .exe file you downloaded.

I had a similar problem some time back and found that while the auto-installers put all the right stuff in... they did not seem

to take all the right stuff out. Then when you use a tweaker that looks at everything (remnants and current) it gets confused.

On your next install of detonator drivers, try unzipping the .exe file and then do the update drivers thingy, pointing to that directory

as if it were an installation disk.

(I'm making some guesses here since your "My Rig" isn't up to date... (ie: no rig shown using a Ti4200..)

Hope this helps you.

PS: trying to game with NT isn't doing you any favors either. I suggest 98SE or XP to get the most out of your hardware

RC 10.2 is working great for me..... but I do have one question....

You can overclock via "low level hardware" OR by 'Driver level'.... which one is better ?

Thx in advance :)

Sounds to me like Anand is on Crack. I'm using XP Pro on both machine, and no, I haven't updated my rigs. Hell, I never even had WinNT...

I use the driver level because I understand it. (windows registry values entered to control performance features)

The low level tweaks (I think...?) modify registers on the video card itself and each time you reboot, rivatuner runs

long enough to make the changes, then exits.

I don't know if this is better or worse (or why there are two paths at all for that matter).

Not much of an answer, I know but it's all I got :)

XP/2000 is built on NT technology.

Nothing wrong with NT.

Hey.... that's cool. It's more than I have so far, so thx for the reply. :)

Has anyone else done any test / benchmarks for driver level vs. low level hardware overclocking with this rivatuner yet ?
