Ciggs have been $8 or $9 in Canada for years now, cry me a river. I can't even buy cigars in my country, I order them from the US because the taxes are so crazy.

What I pay here in just state and federal tax is enough for a couple with 5 kids even to live off of...and they still don't plow/salt the roads, there is a sign of put america to work on my street that's a bird is nesting on now, since April ... cones and invisible workers.

dude, your problem is not which coke, it's the amount of coke. You are in the certain death category with that much pop.

I drank 2-3 2-liters a day, every day, for over five years. I drank nothing other than soda. Now, I drink about one either as a 2-liter or through cans and supplement with water.

By the way, all of it was diet soda, so I hope this gives people a little more perspective on whether or not aspartame is safe to consume :O

Boy oh boy I remember the good ol days of being in the Army in 1995.

$4.00 a carton for generic AAA cigs and $10.00 a carton for name brands. Name brands usually got knocked a few bucks off for the coupons too so a carton of Newports was like $7.50.

Yes there are health concerns for smokers but isn't there health concerns for everything?

Govt is really overstepping there bounds on this, and more people should object.

It'll be completely illegal to ship tobacco any day now if I recall,

Yep, starting July 1st.

This outta be interesting....I've been mail ordering cigs for @ 10 yrs...first from the Indians and when they got expensive, from overseas.

I still have 12 cartons to be delivered and they aren't gonna be here by July 1st.

I dunno if they'll send them back or I'll get a "No-No" letter from US Customs and they'll be destroyed after 30 days.

I'm hoping they don't know it's tobacco and they let 'um thru. :awe:

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Hehe, I'm gonna start going over the mountain to buy cartons from our lovely neighbors and make some $$ selling them to friends.

A buddy of mine already goes across the border with $1000 each month for this reason.

It's like 50% profit.

To answer a few questions that were raised (I'm only a couple miles from one part of one of the reservations)

1. You used to be able to order cigarettes online. It's now illegal to send cigarettes by mail. That's a very recent change. It was aimed (obviously) at shutting down the Indians, particularly the Seneca Nation who controlled about 80% or more of all online sales. Basically, that law will all but stop their online businesses.

2. NY "plans" to tax cigarettes purchased on the reservation. HAHAHAHAHAA! HAHAHAHAAAAA HA HA HAA! The Indians manufacture several brands themselves. So, NY can't go after the suppliers to keep them from selling to the Indians. Strike one. NY has ZERO sovereinty on Indian land. The Senecas can do whatever they want. The *only* way NY could tax those cigarettes is to put up road blocks and searched everyone's car leaving the reservation. Legally, it's a big circle jerk in Albany where they're just posturing so they can say, "see, we tried to make them play fair! Sorry local small business owners competing for cigarette sales."

The way they are going to tax it is by taxing wholesalers that are sending cigarettes into the indian nation. By making it the responsibility of the wholesaler which is outside of the indian nation they are able tax it without having to enforce anything on sovereign indian land. This has gone to the supreme court in the past and the ruling was in favor of the state.

Where are the tobacco lobbyists? I want to see a 50% tax on alcohol and sweets. We can all sit in our self-made utopia where everything done not for necessity but pleasure is illegal or heavily taxed. PC parts with higher performance than a intel atom should have a electricity luxury tax. Cars with less than 30MPG should be taxed 50% for ruining our health, environment and driving fuel costs up. etc etc. Only a total fool would condone such a high tax on cigarettes and not see where the shit is heading.

I guess I'm a little confused....don't we all pay the federal tax or are they going to try and single out the Indians for a higher tax rate?

It's the State tax that many try to avoid.

AFAIK the no-mail thing is to keep cigs from under age smokers (official reason and also why CCs can't be used anymore) and limit the state tax avoidance (unofficial reason).
