wow, this is not good. Only played a little bit of SP so far. I feel like I'm running 100 mph, I can't aim worth shit, there's lots of stutter (although I am running it at max, may need to lower some settings), graphics aren't very good, I think they just imported the enemies from the old game (how the act, how the move, etc) and just re-skinned them.

No stutter here.

Definitely a budget title with some pretty bad graphics by today's standard.

That said, I'm really enjoying it. I like the ridiculous movement speed, all of the secrets to find and ludicrous gibs. I'm glad I picked it up but I'll be surprised if I put more than 20 hours into it.

I do think Serious Sam 3 does the "old school" thing much, much better but unfortunately it is nearly impossible to find a MP match.

I'd like to play the singleplayer, but I'm even more interested in the multiplayer. Has anyone played online yet? Can you report your experiences? I'd like to give it a try but I'm stuck at work for the next little while.

Well, performance issues aside, the game is great. It feels like an oldschool FPS through-and-through. The speed, the chaos, the crazy weapons, the secret areas, and the "ludicrous gibs" are all there. It's not without a good sense of humor either.

But damn it has some serious optimization problems. At first I set the graphics to Ludicrous settings, started a new game and was getting ~30 FPS on average. I figured it was cranked up too much, so I switched over to High settings... I was still getting ~30 FPS. I then switched to Medium settings, and... still ~30 FPS, maybe 40. The image quality was worse and I had no extra frames to show for it.

Looks like there's literally dozens of threads on the Steam forums where people are complaining about performance issues, so I'm not the only one. Hopefully they patch it soon.

Really? I'm actually very impressed by how good the graphics are. It's a budget Unreal title, sure; but it looks a lot more detailed than the trailer let on.

I'm pretty sure that's intentional. 😛

I think the (minor) problem that I'm having with the graphics is the utter lack of effect that you have on the environment. Just the little things like TV screens, bottles, crates... nothing is effected by bullets or explosions. It is the little things that we take for granted nowadays.

Obviously, I don't expect crazy environmental destruction or anything like that... just a little more modernization. The good thing is that I'm usually moving too fast to care. 🙂

I don't get it. I set everything to max, and I don't really see any performance issues. I have a pretty modest system, too, and I'm playing at 1680x1050.

It feels almost exactly like the original RoTT, twitchy and fast. I love it already.

it's unplayable for me. between the super fast move speed (fast is ok but this speed is ridiculous, no need for it) and framerate issues (same performance on low as on max), there's no point in playing it.

Played some yesterday, wasn't too taken with it. May continue with it... it does have a bit of an old school fun feel.

For my money, no game has pleased me as much with an old school throwback feel as Painkiller, the original did.

Serious Sam games never struck that nostalgia thing as well for me as I'd hoped they would... this isn't... DNF didn't... ironic that Painkiller wasn't even a sequel or remake but still captured that old feel really well.

I still boot up Painkiller every now and then. Man, I wish a studio would make a new Painkiller - same mechanics, just new levels, new monsters, secrets, maybe a few new weapons.

haven't there been multiple painkiller games? could have sworn there was a new one not that long ago on steam.

WTF?
These company don't know how to make new games anymore?
That was a great game back in the day, but come on!

there have been remakes and a few with a couple new levels and weapons, but mechanics were poor from my understanding. I want a new whole story.

I hate to say it because I liked the original but this game sucks. It performs terribly, there are constant clipping issues, bugs, etc.... easily one of the worst fire person shooters I have played in years. This feels like a half-assed fps that came out 10 years ago.

Do yourself a favor and buy Call of Juarez Gunslinger, they are the same price and Gunslinger is light years better that this heaping pile of crap.

Agree on Gunslinger - awesome game. Was pretty damn hard though, that last section near the end pissed me off so bad, lol.

Gunslinger is definitely a better game and I highly recommend it ... but it is a different type of shooter.

A lot of people want a fast pace classic-style quality FPS but ROTT just isn't going to be that game, I think. My first impressions were good but, after a few hours of gameplay, it is feeling really shallow to me. Hopefully, mods and updates will help but that remains to be seen.

I played some Quake III last night for the first time in 4-5 years and it just felt so much better than ROTT.

I posted on the steam forums about the speed and people are saying that I don't know how to play these types of games. Huh? I've probably been gaming longer than they've been alive.

I bet if you booted up the original ROTT and compared the movement speed with the new ROTT, they would be nearly identical.

You're probably just not used to moving so fast through such a high-tech, graphically-detailed environment. Modern shooters with "awesome grafix" tend to be the slow, trudging military games and Call of Duty clones.

Of course, you might also be picking one of the fast characters. Pick the slow guy next time instead.

nope, got the original ROTT in pre-order of ROTT 2013 and its no where near as fast
I picked Doug, the "slow" guy, who still moves at 100 mph.

Massive 1.1 patch for ROTT has gone live today. Looks like they've done a lot of work on the game. Quick save isn't implemented in this patch but they are testing it now.
