Back in the mid 70's a friend had one that was a 2-stroke 3 cylinder engine.

They didn't seem to be quite ready for US prime time. :D

Good riddance. I don't even know a single person who currently owns or has ever owned a Saab. I can't even recall the last time I saw a Saab on the road. They will not be missed by 99% of Americans, I assure you.

you obviously don't live or have never been to the north east.
I have a saab (9-2x), my sister has a saab (9-3 viggen) my fam has owned i think 5 over the years, and every 5th person in new england seems to have one

Hopefully they'll stick around and get back to making solid cars since the GM years weren't the greatest for them.

Swedish govt to meet GM over Saab future

Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 01/06/2010 09:27 AM

A delegation from the Swedish government will meet with General Motors [GM.UL] next week in the United States to discuss the future of loss-making car unit Saab, Sweden's national news agency said on Tuesday.

Representatives from Sweden's finance and industry ministries will meet in Detroit with Saab parent GM and Ford (F.N), currently in the process of selling its Swedish car unit Volvo Cars.

"As we understand it, GM has not closed the door to a sale (of Saab), even if the official line is a wind-down," state secretary Joran Hagglund said.

"We want to make totally sure they (GM) have all the information they need."

Dutch sports car maker Spyker Cars (SPYKR.AS), which wants to buy Saab, has said GM has set a deadline of Jan 7. for bids for the Swedish firm.

Saab, which GM has controlled since 1989, posted a loss of $340 million in 2008 and is expected to have made a similar loss last year.

A deal with Swedish luxury car maker Koenigsegg to buy Saab fell through in late November and in December, GM said it would start winding down Saab's operations though it would consider new bids for the firm.

Spyker's CEO, Victor Muller, has said there are multiple parties still interested in buying Saab, which employs over 3,000 workers in Sweden.

GM Said to Be Close to Announcing Saab Sale to Spyker (Update1)

Posted by: Timothy Tibbetts on: 01/26/2010 09:29 AM

It's Tuesday, so here is your "Saab deal is close" speculation story for the day. Look for another similar story tommorow.... the next day... and so on until someone buys this turd.

Quote from the article:

General Motors Co. is close to announcing a deal to sell its Saab division to Spyker Cars NV, said a person familiar with the negotiations.

An announcement may be made as early as late afternoon in Sweden after an agreement is final, said the person, who asked not to be identified before an official press release. Spyker shares were suspended in Amsterdam trading at 1:45 p.m. local time.

Spyker, led by Chief Executive Officer Victor Muller, has offered GM about $75 million in cash and $325 million in preferred shares in the company that would emerge from the transaction, people familiar with the matter said last week. GM would get $100 million of Saab’s existing liquidity, they have said.

Saab is among four brands, along with Pontiac, Saturn and Hummer, that the Detroit-based automaker is unloading to focus on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac in the U.S. after its bankruptcy exit on July 10. Saab’s main factory in Trollhaettan in southwestern Sweden employs about 3,500 workers.

Muller couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.

there are more rumors about the death and resurrection of saab than of the G8. that's fairly impressive.

It's a Saab story. Based on the horror stories of people I know that owned Saabs, it was inevitable.

That's the truth. My wife had one when we first met and that thing was an unbelievable POS. Constantly having issues with it until I finally convinced her to get rid of it.

She buys a BMW and has it totaled a week later when some old hag t-boned her. DOH!!!

Well Saab has been saved. Assuming Spyker gets the funding they need (likely) they will be the new parent of Saab.

Part of the deal was that the (Russian) CEO of Spyker step down, as GM was afraid of it's IP winding up in the hands of Russian car manufacturers, apparently enough that they won't trust a company if it's run by a Russian ...

All new 9-5 is a winner and the with the 9-3 now pumping out 285HP in XWD trim its another good vehicle.

The 9-3X a Ouback/AllRoad wagon is due to arrive shortly as well.

Then of course the 9-4X which is basically a Saab tuned Cadillac SRX SUV arrive for 2011.

Gotta love those quirky Swedish cars built by Trolls.
