Riots expected after acquittal: Michael Brown

Communities indeed. 🙄

This place is embarrassing sometimes. Yes, the evidence supports the officer's use of force, and I agree with that conclusion based on the testimony and evidence I saw. It doesn't change the systematic injustices that have faced minority communities for years and years, and despite their anger being misplaced in this one particular instance, that anger is spilling over into protests (many of which are not ending in rioting and looting, but that's clearly not been the focus in this thread).

What's funny about all these protesters is that if they used that energy to actually vote in an election, on bills, etc etc, they could actually have some change but of course, statistics show they don't care about that.

Exactly. Everyone needs to be more involved in the political process. But it's also a two-way street. The people in charge should be trying to build bridges with their communities to keep people from remaining alienated and further encourage civil participation. (And on a side-note, we should end the ridiculous laws of felony disenfranchisement - if people did their time and you think they're ready to return to society, they should have the right to vote restored)

I just realized tonight that there are nearly an equal number of troops deployed in Ferguson, MO as there are currently in Iraq against ISIS. Think about that for a minute.

Our President and Commander-in-Chief's response to an Islamist army/terror group who have taken large swaths of two sovereign nations and have beheaded Americans to an international audience initially sends less troops in months than were sent into Ferguson in the past few days.

Yes, I understand that the National Guard response is at the behest of the Governor of Missouri, but this is still entirely disturbing to me.

That was my thought too when they said they were deploying another 1500.

I guess it's more important when it's in your backyard.

Apples vs Oranges

You know we just had a war in Iraq and everyone wanted out troops out. And secondly, there are a great number of soldiers not in Iraq that are fighting ISIS from aircraft carriers and bases in other countries.

Let me know when ISIS burns down a Little Caesar's anywhere in the US.

Ok, serious response

1. It's a lot different when you're allowed to kill the other guys, and you're really fucking good at killing the other guys
2. It's a lot different when you're there to assist in the targeting of bombs directed at the other guys, and those bombs are really fucking good at blowing shit up.
3. It's a lot different when you're just assisting the Iraqi military, which is slightly more competent than police in Missouri (only because we trained them)
4. You are a fucking moron if you thought your post made any sense at all.

The rioting portion of the protests will fizzle out over the next few days or maybe few weeks. No civil war. Dang. Have to wait for the next shooting I guess.

So will there be some sort of notice given so we know when to switch from outrage looting to Black Friday looting?

Yeah, this will go away quickly...especially with thanksgiving coming up. And it's getting cold, people don't like protesting in the winter.

I'm sure there will still be some die-hards in ferguson that try to keep the movement alive, but for the most part this is done now.

They will likely sue the PD for the way they handled the scene and the case, and they will likely win something, and everyone will be happy.

Part of this frustration is a result that voting is merely window dressing. Unfortunately the windows they break aren't Al Sharpton's and the politicians who use them.

That guy was actually at fault for this shit. When you watch the full video you can see he tries to drive right through the whole crowd despite open lanes being available to him to his left and he just tried to run drive through the crowd like it was nothing.

http://www.startribune.com/local/minneapolis/283891941.html

How about not being a bunch of inconsiderate assholes and blocking the flow of traffic. From looking at the video, he may not have noticed the open lanes to the left of him. There was a silver sedan to the front left of him and he/she was in the far right lane.

If you say so hotshot. I wear the uniform, I have friends in Iraq right now and out of the two missions, guess which one has greater impact on the globe.

This is a media driven crisis that is exploitative and divisive with little real impact beyond the next few weeks. Meanwhile, thousands of innocents are being slaughtered and three sovereign nations have in effect been invaded and two of them are at risk of failure.

The point stands, we have committed more troops to one drug using, thieving young man who assaulted a cop than we have to an army that is slaughtering thousands and thumbing their nose at the world. Sure, I'm a fucking moron.

PS - It appears the SecDef just resigned due to the inability of the Commander-in-Chief to manage an international crisis. That's bad.
