Thanks bubbadu !!!

Picked one up yesterday (Tuesday). Had to visit 2 Best Buys to find some in stock.

Kind of disappointed, since I bought one last week from Amazon.com for $49.99 shipped (after rebate) and thought that was a pretty good deal ;(

Deal alive in Southern California. Just found an open box one(with box&upc) in Cerritos and got it for 39.60. Computer showed a few scattered around O.C and LA county area. Alway ask them to check under the counter.
Good luck.
Thanks for the post.

Sorry to yell, but it sounds like just about everybody else is getting this for $49 and I paid $99 for it at Best Buy yesterday. Can someone scan a receipt or something so I can try to get a price adjustment? Will that even work? Any other suggestions?

* I'm fat. Dangerously so. If I don't get to the gym and start shedding some lbs., I'm gonna drop dead of a heart attack at the ripe old age of 32. And I can't go to the gym without tunes. So, as you can plainly see, I have a lot at stake with this hot deal. 😀🙂

I actually prefer LAME-encoded mp3s to the WMA files around 64k bitrates. If you use RazorLAME, the mp3-tech.org preset for portables seems to work much better. I'm still trying to find a good setting for < 20k bitrates for audio books though.

To upload files to the Rio, I'm using MusicMatch Jukebox. Everything else I've tried has either frozen or crashed on me, so I'm sticking with this.

Does anyone have a scan of the receipt? I'd like to use it for a pricematch.-by Daeymion

I have a receipt-I think I was the first one to get this BB rebate-even before babbadu-🙂
The problem is that I have no website-if anyone has a website, please let me know and I will email you the reciept for everyone.

DEAD DEAD!

At Skokie, IL Store. I looked at the tag and it was it was 99.50. It was printed this morning. I asked for a pricecheck and it is confirmed 99.50. Aww 🙁

"St Louis area stores have it priced at at $99 w/ $50 rebate.
The store manager says that this was a "Market adjustment" that was good only from 2/10 - 2/12. He showed this to me in the computer system. Deal could be officially DEAD"
i went to check and see what the fuss was about--saw it yesterday? maybe monday, but left it. had a big ol ticket trumpeting the price $49.97
today had the glue'ed on tag w/shelf prong, i wanted to see if i could engineer the old one to scan for interested peeples 🙁. said $49.97- $50.00 rebate FREE! (their caps and exclamation, not mine) end date 2/16/2002...

Dead in Rego Park, NY. Tag on the shelf said 99 w/ 50 rebate. Thought I'd risk it and brought it up front but it rang up as 99 also.

Ah well, was really looking forward to a free mp3 player.

<< Yet another deal missed by just one day.... St. Louis is an unlucky place to live! >>

Hey now, I live in St. Louis too. I scored one of these last night @ the BB in Chesterfield. See my post in this thread.

Yep deal is dead. They pulled the tag after my purchase. Was there today the tag now reads $49 after $50 rebate.

They did have a hand written shelf tag for the G4 TI 4600 $129. :Q (see my post in the appropriate thread)

WAHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Ok, you're all off the hook. I went to the BB in Burbank and though they didn't have any left, their tag did still say $49.97-$50=Free! So I got them to give me a price adjustment on the one I had bought yesterday for $99. The girl processing my return said she was sure that sign was wrong, but the general manager said to credit me back, so she did. Now, hopefully Rio comes through with the rebate.

Uh.... don't suppose anyone would want to sell me an extra one for $50 + Shipping, would they?

Awwww, come on...... you still come out $50 ahead!

NO?!! Oh, well.... I tried!
😉

New meaning to the word "DEAD" over here guys. I got my Rio 600 for $49.97 minus the $50 rebate. So I bring it home and I slide off the back compartment to install the battery. I have a Rio PMP300 (the original) and I always thought to myself that they would improve the battery compartment on the newer models, well I was wrong. The stupid little clip in thing is beyond stupid but anyway... I put the battery in and of course I install with the proper polarity and I clip the cover back over it and slide the back piece back onto the main unit. I sit it down and reach behind my computer to plug in the USB cable. By the time I pick up the unit again I smell a burning smell and I notice that the bottom of the Rio is REALLY HOT. So quickly I pull off the back peice and try to remove the battery but I can't because the plastic clip in piece is extremely hot to the touch. So I quickly pop it off and the battery is now stuck to the clip in plastic piece. I sit the battery and piece down and 1 second later (no I'm not exagerating) battery acid shoots out of the battery onto the desk.

There wasn't any visible damage to the unit but I called SonicBlue and they are going to replace it for me. I would have just returned it to bestbuy but they didn't have any more in stock and the guy said that since I had already cut off the UPC I couldn't return it even though I hadn't mailed it out yet. No big deal but just thought you guys would like to hear about my "HOT DEAL"

Used my Rio 600 in the car, it even makes my poor factory audio sound better 🙂 Yes, I compared the radio and Rio, the sound from Rio is a lot better. Even better than the sound from CD :Q

I used Media Player to convert a whole CD into wma, and loaded into Rio. Seems there is no way to copy from CD to Rio directly. But the good thing is not only did Media Play find the Title, Artist, Author, Album name, and Genre information, it also found the image of the CD cover!

I just gotta say that I love the headphones that came with this thing.

Also, MS seems to have done an ok job with Media Player 8. Ripping tracks, managing music, making playlists, and transfering to the Rio are all fairly simple.

anyone know from where to dowload media player 8? I have windows 98 and it came with media player 6-will media player 8 even work??
Shmuel

try this 🙂
typed "windows media player" in google. it's the first hit, if'n the link above doesn't work
good luck
also i think if you have windows update enabled, or go to the update page over @ microsoft, you get same.

WMP 8 is part of Windows XP. It's not available for other OSes as far as I know. I think 7.1 has pretty much the same functionality, but I never got around to using it because I thought it was a POS the first time I saw it 😉

Deal dead in Lewisville... the price for the Rio 600 (64 meg) is $149 - $20 MIR... they only had two, and had them scanned and both price and rebate are the same... there was no 32 meg versions and the price on them was $99 with NO rebate...

bummer...

they had an Intel 64 meg player for $79... looked decent...

you can't beat free though, even if it's defective...
