In fact, I suspect the GOP will pay heavily for their hubris in 2014 and 2016.

Did the House Republicans really celebrate with drinks when the Federal Government shut down? Boy, that is going to make some great commercials in the 2014 elections.

My brother swung into town last night on his way to PA. We got to hang for a bit and talk, have some beers, talk about dad, I built him a new PC - and somehow it went to politics - where it usually doesn't. He brought it up, not me. We disagreed a lot back in 2012 (he was for Romney) but haven't discussed it much. We know it's ok to disagree, and we don't like arguing. I wouldn't call him a die hard republican, but he's always gone to bat for them even when he probably shouldn't have. We haven't agreed on much when it comes to all things domestic with GOTP politicians.

Anyway, this staunch pub told me before he retired for the night that he took back a lot of the things he said before about the Dems, and ended with a paraphrased version of the bolded above. I was surprised at how much he's been keeping tabs on this, usually he just prefers to get summaries from the news (another source of strife between us) and the occasional round of radio.

Really hit me. It was the first thing I thought about this morning when I got up taking care of my boys and I'm still a little dazed. If this circus has reached new lows sufficient to make even my own Obama hating brother feel that way, I really think Boner and Friends are dangerously close to being fucked, if they aren't already.

Sorry for the personal sidetrack, reading the bolded quote renewed the sense of surprise and revelation I had and I felt I should share. In a week loaded with rough news, last night made me feel a little better.

If they were true leaders they would have stood up to the tea party. But they're not.

You are exceedingly slow and suffer from severe cognitive dissonance. You'd be saying the same shit about crappy GOP leadership if they stopped the tea party before they caused a shutdown. Fact is, it's good the nutter reps actually SEE the idiocy of picking this particular shutdown Obamacare fight, as now they know they weren't strategically denied the ability to defund Obamacare, as the option never existed in the first place.
