Set aside college admission program for certain groups at Texas University in Austin will be test at the US Supreme Court = http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/22/u...n-affirmative-action-in-higher-education.html

The new case, Fisher v. University of Texas, No. 11-345, was brought by Abigail Fisher, a white student who says the University of Texas denied her admission because of her race

Why should a particular student suffer from set aside programs for certain other students? IMO, high school grades, ranking, scores on standardize college admission tests should be the sole factors and nothing else.

Funny how Asian students are still doing much better in school/college than other minority groups even they did not have those set aside programs? Why is that?

Don't forget unlimited handouts to get votes since Conservatives are racists

Only need the conservative racism, which this thread shows beautifully.
Democrats will have a lock on the minority vote as long as the Republican party remains solely committed to governance by white people, for white people. Which they will as long as they remain the party of uneducated, low information whites. (Which this forum shows beautifully)

Affirmative action. Minority scholar ships. Job quotas. Racial extortion.

Interesting, since white women benefit from both Affirmative Action and Minority scholarships. The term "minority" is very general, it doesnt just mean "black people", dumbass.

How does she know why she wasnt admitted? Its not like they tell you in the rejection letter. It could be possible that she is just pissed she didnt get in. White people are starting to play the race card more than non-whites are.

You/me/and almost everyone else don't know the exact reason either. We will see how things go in court later if what she claimed is true.

Any comments on my previous statement about race neutral requirements for college admission?

What about my last sentence in post #102? Can you tell me why? If those students could do well in school/college without any set aside/prefer programs, then why can other students do the same?

Sure, we shouldnt let people who don't meet the requirements for Universities and Colleges in over people who DO.

However, I don't appreciate the assumption that all people within my race MUST have gotten into college/jobs/whatever due to affirmative action. Do you know how much of that I deal with everyday?

A few months ago at the company picnic for my mom's job, I was approached by one of her bosses who asked me about my Michigan State shirt. He asked "Oh, you're a fan of Michigan State?" I said "Yes, I'm a student there! *smile*". He must be terrible at hiding his feelings because his face told me that he was a bit shocked (possibly disgusted. It was like an angry smirk)..the next thing that comes out of his mouth was "My daughter applied there and she didnt get in...".

I just smiled back and said that the student body has been growing over the past few years and asked what other schools she considered.

I guess he wanted me to feel bad for seemingly taking his daughters spot. He doesn't know anything about me, anything about my grades, or my extra curricular activities.

If you guys want to play the " oppressed" white person card, go ahead...but don't blame people like me for not getting into college. These issues are not always so black and white.

To your last question, do you REALLY expect me to answer for why Asians do better in school that other minorities? I might be black, but that does not mean I can answer for my race. How condescending. You also seem to be assuming that the only way students from minority groups can do well is if someone gives them a handout. Once again, condescending. How about the countless white students who go to college, waste their time partying, don't do well academically, and use financial aid to do it? What about the white kid that probably didn't get in so this kid could? What about the black/asian/latino kid that was just as eligible but didnt get in so this kid could waste their time in college? It happens, I've been in school for a while now and Ive run into students from every racial group that don't do anything in college.

Yeah it may have started under Bush but Obama is sure showered with love over her Obamaphone.

If you had a vote and the blue line had free food, free shelter and phones and the red line gave you nothing which line do you think would win the vote?

Also those people were transported and paid for by the SEIU ($11hr).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=G5DTqvX74O4

Well it depends, do I actually know that it was the Red Line that gave out free Phones?

But yea, I know they got paid because they were also protesting in Detroit and I got a chance to see them out there.

I probably should have been more clear. Blue line represents (to me) big government. Hand outs and such. Red line represents smaller government, less handouts, work for what you get crowd (think the extreme Ron Paul esque type of government). That's why the red line loses IMO. Their tag line is "vote for me and you'll have to do more for yourself". Doesn't go over well with the elderly or the lazy.

I did not say anything about people who don't meet the requirements for Universities and Colleges, nice try to spin. This is what I said:
... high school grades, ranking, scores on standardize college admission tests should be the sole factors and nothing else.

Do you agree with the above statement for college admission? Yes or No, very simple to answer.

So you can read that guy mind at the party now? All we have from you were "his face told me..." and "I guess...". I wasn't there so I can't vouch for his state of mind.

Just a simple question about why Asians are doing much better in school/college than other minority groups WITHOUT any set aside/AA programs. If set aside/AA programs should help minority groups to overcome the parity/gap with white, then why certain minority groups could not even come close to Asian students regarding college/school? I did not assume anything, facts are facts. Should that be a very good reason to remove set aside/AA programs and only use achievements for college admission for EVERYONE, regardless of race?

Here is an example from another thread = http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=34032146&postcount=20 (Asian students are at the same level or better than white students while other groups are way behind)

If a student (black/white/brown/green/purple) is on financial aid and slacking off, he or she won't last but one semester before the money would be cut off, at least that how things were when I was in college.

Right, okay. Me and my beliefs are done? How are they done Spidey? What are you going to do?

Hahah, Spidey never seemed totally sane to me, but just judging from his recent posts I think he may snap and go on a shooting spree if O wins reelection. By "may", I mean "definitely".

I couldn't be arsed to care much one way or the other myself, the older I get, the politicians just seem like the same round-robin group of assholes anyway.

Cheers!

Okay, then YOU AGREE with what I said. Do you know what admission requirements for college are? They are based on the things you outlined above and I said that I don't agree with ignoring those requirements just to let people in to meet some quota.

This conversation is going nowhere, I don't have time for you or Spidey tonight. Maybe tomorrow.

Also no, I did not say I could read his mind, but based off of his facial expressions and his tone when he was talking to me...I could tell what he was getting at (Ever hear the saying "Actions speak louder than words"?). Hell, I even had a family member whose daughter didn't get into MSU and she had an attitude with me about it (they turned her down because her grades sucked and she didnt do good on the ACT). I've had people get snooty with me before, especially at work (I work tech support, computer illiterate people have short fuses :|). I've had people talk down to me before because they expected me not to know things (I play the piano, I can speak another language, I really like Classical music, etc).

I'm not just saying white people, I get it from people of different races. Most of the time my own people. I've been living long enough and have had enough experiences with people to know not only how to deal with shitty attitudes, but how to keep myself from stooping to their level.

Lastly, you are AGAIN asking me to answer for an entire group of people. Why should I have to and why do you expect me to? If you already know the facts, why are you even asking me the question? Do you know realize how condescending you are being right now?

First of all, you QUOTED me first in this thread and I have to reply in kind. I did not quote you or anyone in my very first post in this thread.

Secondly, you still have not say Yes or No on my questions about college admission and removal of set aside/AA programs.

Thirdly, you don't have to answer anything you don't want to. We all know the answer /why/reasons. Facts are facts. So far, I provide links to back me up and all we have from you were?

Do you have issues with selective reading? I can't help you with that.

Oh really? Is that why you keep asking me the SAME question over and over?

Why you are even trying to pick this bone with me is a mystery to me...I don't remember ever addressing you in the first place. You asked ME a question.

So, it seems like you already know the answers to your questions and you are just pestering me because you need to feel important.

There was a time when land lines were cheap.
They are not now.

No I do not have an Obama phone. I can afford "straight talk" 1000 minutes.

I do work for a nonprofit. There are lots of seniors, disabled, or out of work that depend on Obama phones for medical, job search, or information.
Tried to find a pay phone when you need it?

Obama phones are cheap, service is only "better than none".
It works, it helps, people care.

LOL, Okay, so I pose the question of how this young woman could know why..

You even agreed that even you DON'T know if she was rejected due to affirmative action or not. The case has still not been resolved.

You still havent pointed out where I apparently, challenged your assertion that asians do not need AA programs to get ahead. You made that statement and it went unchallenged by me. You were the one who called me out asking me to refer to post #102 to answer your ridiculous question. Did you not?

Nevermind. Don't answer that. Thats exactly what you did.
