They were shipping more phones because they were moving downmarket into poorer countries. US sales have been decreasing for over a year. What happens to all their low end sales when we see $100 Android phones?

Think that's already started to happen. Weren't there actual declines last quarter in BB shipments/owenership?

I hear you, but I don't know if we will ever see that happen. Apple doesn't get a monthly revenue from iPhones (as far as I know) the same way RIM does. Apple makes revenue from selling apps, music, movies, etc., so for them to allow iPhones to not be tied to an iTunes account (and credit card) means they remove the only recurring revenue they see for the phones.

Maybe they will offer some other enterprise service that they can milk for a monthly fee which will allow companies to bypass the need for itunes and CC requirement.

It is possible to bypass the iTunes CC requirement.

...has been done this way since I got my first iPhone (3G).

Wow...a realy life Bismarckian! When I moved from Philly to Seattle, I stopped in Bismarck, I distinctly remember saying "Who actually lives here?" This of course was after seeing literally nothing all day driving....

The upside is that you get to meet everyone in the damn state, like the governor, one of my cousins is a state senator, etc...

Jumping ship - sounds reasonable. Should have spent the money I blew on a Playbook on a Garmin Oregon 450.

I was one of them. Good riddance to that piece of junk, this phone is 10000% better.

This just in...new phone is considerably better than old phone.

Stick around, news at 11, a new PC with Core i7 beats a Core Duo in benchmarks! We'll show you the shocking results!

stop being such a fanboy.
even now, the iphone 3gs is still better than any current bb phone.

I have been accused on these forums of being an Android fanboy, a Windows Phone fanboy, and a BlackBerry fanboy. I wonder when someone will call me an Apple fanboy? Its gotta happen sooner or later. Whenever I have the gall to refute someone's attempt to insult a product, someone else that hates it feels it necessary to jump in and call me a "fanboy" just because I won't hate everything but one platform.

lol to what end will you defend

I find it interesting that neither of you can actually take issue with my statement, so you're just going after me. I don't know what his old phone was, lets say it was Tour series. Upgrading from a Tour to an iPhone 4S, a Galaxy Nexus, a Focus S, or a Bold 9930 all would be massive, vast improvements. That's how this market works.

i don't care what you claim you've been called. i personally see you constantly defending RIM.

i have a 9850, one of their newest phones. i played with a co-workers 9930 which is their flagship phone iirc.
while improved over the old phones, i would still rather have a iphone 4, or even 3gs.

The Blackberry was a piece of crap since the day I got it brand new. It was the worst phone I have ever used hands down. I would have gone back to my old Motorola RAZR in a heartbeat if I could have. It has very little to do with old vs new.

Well now, lets apply a little critical thinking here. I would estimate that the majority of your posts on this forum regarding mobile devices amounts to you taking some sort of a swipe at RIM. I just said in my post above that I generally get labeled a fanboy when I defend a product someone is attacking. Now...lets put two and two together and see if we can't figure out why you would see me "constantly defending RIM".

Also, lol @ you're usage of the word "claim" to passively insinuate that it hasn't happened. That's cute, sport.

Good for you. Isn't it wonderful that everyone is welcome to their own opinion on mobile devices? I bet there's someone out there that really likes the 9930 and hates iOS. Probably someone that hates both and would prefer WP7. Its amazing how that works.

As for me, I have a BB 9930, Dell Venue Pro, Samsung Focus, Samsung Vibrant, T-Mobile G2, T-Mobile G1, iPhone 2G, and HTC HD2 (running Android). Too bad I'm just a good-for-nothing BlackBerry fanboy, huh?

rims major problem is horrible internet browsing performance. if they could fix that they would at least have a decent product. im surprised they havent done anything about it yet, it shouldnt be that hard
