I'm a conservative but don't frequent P&N much. To answer your original question, no I don't condone the actions of Trump supporters on Jan 6. I think it was despicable and totally against the values of our country. Even though I've overwhelmingly voted Republican over the years, I just couldn't bring myself to vote for Trump in 2016 or in 2020. I agree with some of his policies but just can't stomach him as a person. His ilk shouldn't represent the U.S.

I've got family and friends who are fully onboard the Trump train and are trying hard to justify what happened at the Capitol. Most of them are actually really good people but they bought into the various conspiracy theories and are now drunk on the Kool-Aid.

I appreciate you coming forward and stating your opinion. However this thread was really meant for P&N posters, more specifically, the righty posters who were the most ardent trump defenders.

They're all furiously posting on whatever current alternative Conservative Apps their continued Patriotic activities to murder Americans they disagree with politically. They don't have time to deal with us. Yet.

These people are part of the reason the 2nd amendment exists, to stop these type of things. The 2nd wasn’t for stopping an authoritarian government, it was to protect the states and the country from foreign and domestic threats.
An authoritarian government is a domestic threat. It was "we the people" remember. You recall that we had the revolutionary war. To fight the authoritive british government. Sheesh.

I'm a right winger so I'll make comments on the capital riot. I think these people are idiots for blindly following trump and getting themselves into a bad situation. What for? a lying millionaire who seems to only care for israel and himself? Trump is the traitor. They should have stormed the capital 3 years ago and removed him.

I think you being disingenuous if you don't see the issue. He isn't dumb enough to come right out and say attack that building and take some hostages, to make them turn the election, but he may as well have. First an analogy to make clear to obtuse what was done:

Two brothers stop as their favorite Uncle shows up:
Hey boys, remember all that target shooting we did, here are some presents (9mm autos).
But now I have bad news, see those gang bangers over there (points to teens playing basketball). They are planning to attack your family. See the tall one in Green, he's particularly nasty. He's a child rapist. He was heard on tape saying he didn't care about the money and jeweler, he was in it for your 9 year old sister. We're not going to let that happen. The police can't do anything because his lawyer cheated and the tape excluded. So you gotta be strong. You can't defend your sister with weakness. You have to show strength, and you have to be strong. This is my trusted lawyer, "Judy" - Hey kid, I got it all from my connections in the PD - It's time for trial by combat. So maybe head over there and pay them a pleasant visit, or maybe not so pleasant for some....

Kid in green gets shot. Are you going to argue, that the uncle didn't get them to shoot anyone. Let's not play semantic games about the exact wording involved. He didn't say go shoot that guy in those exact words, he just told them, that if you don't stop him your 9 year old sister gets raped.

That is exactly what Trump did on the 6th.

For the actual day in question and what was said. I read the Jan 6, transcript because it's vomit inducing to watch much of the narcissist con man whipping his mob into a frenzy.

It's an hour+ of brainwashing hammering several points repeatedly.

The election was stolen.
We need Mike Pence and Congress to do the right thing.
The country is doomed unless we fix that.
You can't be weak, you must be strong and fight.
Now head on down there...

Same thing here, he didn't say go attack Mike Pence, but he let the connect the dots that if they don't stop Mike Pence, then Joe Biden steals the election and the country is doomed. And there is really nothing needed to connect those dots, it's dumbed to the level that even a Trump supporter gets the message. No coincidence, some were chanting "Hang Mike Pence!". I'll just pull one quote of the mix of many similar that make clear his stirring the anger to send his mob into battle:

And we fight. We fight like Hell and if you don’t fight like Hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.

Let me repeat that: If you don't fight like Hell, your not going to have a country anymore.

The actual Verbatim quotes can be found here:

Trump is insane and a very dangerous person. He's poison. That was the most obvious incitement.

Thank you for your condemnation. Your counterpoint to what I said about the 2nd amendment though is completely wrong. In fact it’s contradicted right in the constitution itself:

Section 8 clause 15
To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

We also didn’t fight the revolutionary war because of an authoritarian government, we fought it because we were being taxed but had no representation (I’m sure you recall the slogan, “no taxation without representation”)

That representation, for us, comes in many forms, with congress, specifically the House of Representatives, being derived from the people directly. Since we have no kings or dictators in our government, any authoritarian government created would have been created with the will of the people and implemented by the people themselves.

If the 2nd was meant as you and others frequently state, to keep a government in check, what you are really saying is that those who feel oppressed by the majority have a right to use force to get their way, which is in fact authoritarian in nature.

Democracy at the threat of a gun is not democracy at all.

what about a guy like pcgeek11 who I don't believe supports him any longer (might be wrong on that)? Are they honest enough to admit they were suckered by a con man and feel at least a little shame?
No, those former supporters of Trump figured that shit out in 2017, and had the honesty to admit that they got suckered in and regret that. Those that supported Trump into 2020 just don't have the intelligence or integrity to admit they are suckers.
