If you habitually drive in the right lane unless you are passing, you are my best friend!

If, on the other hand, you persistently drive in the center or left lanes when you are not passing another car, YOU SUCK!

I don't care what speed you're driving or what freeway we're on - left lanes are for passing! If you are going the same speed as the person next to you, change lanes and move your arse over and out of the way!

On Seattle's I-90 bridge today I encountered the left and center lane clogged up with about 10 cars each, traveling about 60 mph. The right lane was completely empty! Going about 65 I hopped in the right lane and passed them but seriously! Why was the right lane open???? Do people just not remember that left lanes are for passing?

Agree.

Unfortunately people are stupid, have been taught incorrectly (like that guy who says the center lane is for cruising), or just don't care.

i disagree. i think traffic flows better with cruising in the center lane. if you all sit in the right lane then you have to speed/slowdown alot to let people merge in. if you cruise in the center lane then the people merging in/exiting out can do so without effecting traffic as much, makes far more sense then only having passing in the left 2 lanes.

I don't think there's any possible way that everyone could drive that would make everyone content with the way everyone drives. Everyone has different preferences from everyone else, apparently.

I think if people would just stop going slow in the left lane just about everyone would be happy. Except for the morons that like to cruise in the left lane, but fuck them.

I cruise in the left lane, but it's usually at 20 or 25 over, ahahahah.

you've obviously never been to any place where that is actually true.

edit: i hate when people sit in the local lane blocking people trying to enter/exit. there are 4 lanes plus a bus/hov lane, so why do you insist on sitting in the local lane?

I don't get upset with people cruising in any lane other than the far-left lane, which I always personally assign as a passing lane. This holds true whether the highway has two lanes or eight.

My personal favorite: on icy roads, two lane each direction, guy in right lane going 20mph, guy in right lane passing 20.0005 mph. Both obviously terrified by conditions. But we couldn't leave left lane for faster drivers, could we? It's our right to block faster drivers and pile up 50 cars behind us because it would make too much sense to tuck in behind someone going nearly the speed we want to go and let everyone else go before there's a huge accident.

I drive in the right lane habitually, after passing. Only times I do not is when there is either no room to make it to the right lane, or I would pass the next guy in the right within 5-10 seconds.

More lanes is not hte solution, people should drive in the right and only use other lanes when passing. No one does this in practise making the left lane usually most populated and middle most cruising people are in

I'm mostly a center lane driver, the only problem is I'm doing 5 over and most of the time the people in the center lane will do 5 over, but they can't maintain a constant speed. So I'm always forced to slow down till there's a left lane opening and then pass them. It gets to the point where it's just easier to drive in the left lane rather than switch back and forth. This pisses off the crowd that does 10 over the limit and they end up tailgating me.

I will always move over to let them go by, but they have no patience either. I like to leave a little space between the car I'm passing and me when I pull back into the center lane. To do that, I wait until I can see the wheels of the car I'm pasing in my rear view mirror. 9 times out of ten, the spaztastic tailgater will cut that car off to pass me on the right before I get over. Even if I have my signal on.

So it seems no matter how accomodating I am, and courteous to other drivers, it's not happening fast enough for the speed demons around here. It just doesn't bother me anymore though. So they pass me on the right, all stressed out and pissed about it too probably. Their problem. Not mine.

I cannot agree with your center lane complaint. The center lane on a three lane highway is specifically for people driving the speed limit. The right is for passing and the left is form exiting and merging.

i agree. i do the same thing before moving back into my lane and it seems to drive people crazy. but i know i hate it when someone cuts in front of me when passing, so i try and not do it to other people. the 3 seconds extra it takes me is not life or death to anyone regardless of how impatient people behind me get.

So. . . you are mad because you were not able to drive in the left lane?
Do you not see your own hypocrisy here?

This.
That's why I drive in the middle lanes so I'm leaving room for people to merge on and off of exit ramps. As a general rule I only move into the right lane if I want to Exit the freeway and I do it about a mile or 2 ahead of time so I'm not trying to go abruptly swerving over there at the last second. It's called forethought.

I fucking hate people who cruise in the #1 lane....or even the #2 lane if they're going slow.

Define "slow." Slow is relative. Is the speed limit slow? Do you drive 90 all the time so anybody else slower than that is automatically "slow" to you? Maybe there's a guy behind you who wants to go 100 but to him you're a fucking slug who only wants to creep along at 90 and he's saying the same thing to himself about you that you just posted here.

if youre getting passed on the right. fuck you.

In my experience usually the people who are passing on the right are the ones who just came flying up behind somebody and almost drove up their tailpipe, then give them about 1 second to politely move over before deciding that this slow piece of shit in front of them is a jackass and just aggressively and abruptly driving around them on the right at the earliest possible second thereby making it impossible for the person in the left lane to move over even if they wanted to.

I generally agree with this but it all depends on prevailing traffic conditions and the number of exit ramps and how far apart they are on average. Like on the DC beltway (assuming you are on it during the maybe 2 hours a day when it actually moves) you should never cruise in the right lane because usually the traffic inflow/outflow volume to and from the exit ramps and the frequency with which they occur is far too great to make cruising in the right lane practical. But if it's a 2 or 3 lane highway stretching miles and miles of country with relatively light to moderate volume and the exits are far apart/infrequent, cruising in the far right lane might make more sense. People just need to use their brains.

I always drive in the right lane. I go 1-2 mph over the limit and love getting awesome gas mileage.

Slower Traffic Keep Right is pretty self explanatory to me and yet I still pass people going even slower than I am and they're in the middle lane.
