Right knee is not 100%, help?

evident

Lifer
My right knee has been annoying me since march. It comes and goes but it's most noticable when i'm outside mowing the lawn with the self propelled push mower.
The hardest part for me is describing the issue. There's never an acute *ouch* pain, but that something's agitated, especially if i move my right leg side to side, or if i cross my right leg over my left one when sitting down (left foot resting on left knee) i can feel the joint being "tweaky" if you will. I rest it with ice and it goes away.

I workout doing insanity and focus T25 exercises, and I don't have any major pains when during or afterwards. if there's an exercise where i have to cross my right foot over my left knee (to stretch hip flexors for example) i notice that it gets tweaky, but never outright painful.

i have taken a break for a weeks or days at a time, and been icing my knee but still feel it pop up when i'm doing something with low intensity, like mowing the lawn.

What else can i do to diagnose this? Is it time for an x-ray / MRI?

So you have a health problem and you ask about it on a technical forum?

Go see your doc, you have arthritis.

Hah, it came out of left field. I dont want to be a hypochondriac and thought it would go away if i rested, but it didn't.

you could have a number of problems. arthritis, gout, a tear, inflammation. best to see a professional if it is really bothering you.

I had a similar problem. Tore my meniscus and had surgery. To this day my knee still locks up on me. No sharp pain like you describe but you know something isn't right. I don't plan on going to the doctor to get it fixed right now. Maybe when it gets to be unbearable.

When my knees hurt, it tends to be in the same areas that "would" be stressed when I cross my legs over one another similar to this:

for me, both knees.

Not clear if it is in any way related but I've been trying to stop sitting like that. Days when my knees hurt, they're happy to not sit like that. Days when my knees hurt are getting fewer and farther between.

Still, see a doctor.

Saw my primary doctor and she said that my right knee is a little more swollen than my left which could indicate a slightly torn meniscus, and referred me to an orthopaedic specialist. I had an X-Ray taken for insurance purposes but it won't be able to see any tears. Hoping to see the specialist later this week. In the meantime, i've been taking alleve and icing it and it hasn't bothered me much.

Well here's an update- I had an MRI and was diagnosed with a minor meniscus tear. specialist gave me two exercises to do (stand on one leg and lift knee back 90 degrees, and sit on chair and stretch out leg straight, with 20 lb weights) and sent me on my way and didn;t recommend surgery. I havent done any of my high intensity workouts since then. while i feel like my cardio health has suffered, my knee no longer gives me day to day "pain" even though sometimes it does rear itself as an agitation.

I'm interested in starting up my cardio exercises again but going to be much more careful this time around.
