Does Storm Legion still need to be purchased if you bought the original game?

Now that it's free to play, you don't need to purchase SL. However, you won't get the new SL souls unless you purchase the expansion or purchase them with credits from the Rift Store (credits needed cost about $20 if I recall correctly).

The only content which is locked is the Storm Legion souls (extra sub-classes if you will).

To unlock that you can spend money to buy Rift Store credits and grab them that way or buy the SL expansion.

You can reach level 60 and play in the SL maps without any purchase.

It looks like the 3.0 expansion patch (saw an english language interview with a dev on a german program about games) will be the same deal.

The new souls you'll have to purchase but without buying those you will still be able to level up to the new cap (which, iirc, is 65) and play all the new dungeons and raids as well.

Since this was posted I've played an entirely new character up to level 57, the /played is a little over 7 days. I spent a bit of money on REX in the end and flogged it for 1300 platinum, the new zones in 50-60 are good, a few new extra mechanics thrown in, some really nice boss-dense dungeons, having fun with it.
