RIFT going F2P on June 12

I think what I might like least about Rift are the combat mechanics, and possibly most is hunting for those artifacts, but there's almost no reward for them.

Not sure if you mean things like how off-GCD spells can't be cast until you have a free GCD and buttons just being less responsive than WoW bit if you do mean those things than I would agree. I thought they'd have that all fixed by now

The response of the interface of Rift while not as good as I recall WoW's being is still quite good. Neverwinter Online's interface was the most responsive feeling out of the MM0's I have recently played.

Considering that Rift is now f2p the fact that it's interface isn't as smooth as WoW's is to me a minor quibble as I find the talent trees to be better than WoW's now and it is to me "fresher" than WoW since I have played WoW since a month after launch until early this year.

Since Rift is f2p with cash shop purchase options (in which a fair amount of people pay more than a typical year subscription from time to time) I'm can play it without feeling like I have to play it to get my money's worth out of it as I might with a subscription.

I made a mage and couldn't figure out how to do the talent tree when I hit level 2. It kept telling me my choice would ummm I believe disable my current spec or something, so I just hit auto choose.

I'm dumb.

All that means is that if you don't follow their default template the game won't suggest talents anymore.

Default templates are fine for leveling and you might find better or worse choices yourself.

the 2nd and 3rd alternate talent specs you can buy aren't that expensive.

So what is the process for the returning player who hasnt played since it first came out. DL the game and then use old account name and pw? I been trying to find it on their forums but haven't actually discovered the exact process a person needs to go through. Heck, I cant even remember the shard my toons were on its been so long nor any of my character names.

That is probably it. Since it is free now you can log into your previous account and it will see you owned the game and you will get the perks of having purchased it. That is how it is done in other games that went from a sub to F2P.

Yes, just download the client. It's about 4.5GB all said and done. You can go to the RIFT website and go to the account management page and try to log in. If you haven't logged in since you quit, it's going to make you do an account recovery and change the security questions and passwords even if you had them set up before.

Once you do that and you have access to account management, you should see that you've been given some credits, and you'll be able to see what features you have unlocked (if you had the original collector's edition, etc.). Once you actually get logged in to a character, you will also see popups showing that character has been granted some amount of loyalty as well. The credits and loyalty will be based on how long you were a subscriber.

Once you get in game, go into the RIFT store and in the upper right, there will be a series of things to claim for each character. Read them carefully. Most of them are for each character (account bound), but there are some that are one character only.

The shard select screen will show you where your characters are. If any of them are on shards you don't want them on, there are free transfers allowed every 7 days, with certain restrictions. If your characters are on a shard that is designated for trials, you'll get a free transfer immediately without restrictions.

Hope that helps.

I am planning to start a mage. Anyone want to tell me about mages?

I have a warrior at level 16 but I don't know how good it is in PVP later on.

Mages are the class I have least experience with but my Necromancer/Warlock is quite fun at level 11.

Anyone know of a way to get a very cheap and legit Storm Legion code? I missed out on Raptr and they're still expensive in the UK ($25+ USD equivalent)

Also looking for this. Looks like they pulled it from the major digital distribution sites. Even Amazon has essentially no stock for physical copies of Storm Legion. Other than that, I dont really trust Ebay or resale sites for MMO codes.

I am going to try to stop by Best Buy / Walmart, see if they still have physical copies. $20 from their respective website for Storm Legion.

Mages currently can DPS and Heal/Support. Chloromancer is their healing spec and near end game is great for raids because of AOE heals.

For leveling, going Harb/Chloro/xx is a pretty good spec, but you can really pair anything with Chloro and level well. Get Chloro to 16 points and pump rest into your damage soul and you'll be doing just fine.

My personal favorite is Warlock/Chloro; Mass AOE DOT's is too much fun 🙂

Alright I also heard that mages can heal better than clerics. 0.0

Is that true?

I don't know if it's better, but Rift makes a point to offer different roles to each class, so you have tanking rogues, DPS clerics, healing mages and so on if you pck that spec.

I found one at gamestop. They had 2 copies and all of the other stores within 25 miles were out. I really should have bought it from Amazon last week for 9 dollars. Oh well.

What server are people on?

Found Storm Legion at Target $20 yesterday. The code for the boxed copy appears to be good for the original game + expansion.

Local Best Buy had shelf space for it but they were out.
