Riding Mower Question

On my riding mower, grass is shot out of the side of where it's cut. The issue is that when it's shot out, it goes out a little bit, and will end up on sidewalks, the driveway, the road, etc. I can use a blower to move it around, but when it gets all over the road, that's an issue because it looks bad and the neighbors probably wouldn't like it.

Question: Is there any way to stop the grass from shooting out the side? If I block off where it's shot from, will there be any issue?

The easy solution is to just use the blower for ages and make sure I get all the grass cutting back onto my own lawn, but that can take a while. When people use their push powers, it doesn't have this issue because grass is left where it was cut.

Any thoughts on this stupid issue? :p

find out if your thing has a bag attachment,

or change the way you cut that area and position yourself so it shoots to your lawn rather than the sidewalk

Here's a tip, if it shoots out the right, then mow with the place you don't want the grass on the left.

But seriously, if it's not made to have the exit blocked then your deck is going to get clogged and it won't cut very well. You may be able to buy a mulching kit for it that would contain the grass under the deck.

If you do this the first couple of go arounds, you will have kept the grass of your sidewalk, then you can reverse your direction, and shoot it out to the cut side.

That's an option, I can get a bagging system for it but that's not cheap and I'd rather the grass goes back down as fertilizer.

That works well for all of the yard, except the little strip between the road and sidewalk, might be 2 feet wide? Is there a similar solution for that?

I would say shoot it into the street, assuming its a public roadway, make it SEP

Buy a mulching kit.

It's a plug for the deck so the grass doesn't shoot out and new blades to finely mulch the grass clippings.

Bagging clippings just robs your lawn of nutrients.

That will work better if your mower has mulching capabilities anyway.

The one for my toro ztr also included some baffles that I assume was to make some turbulence and keep the grass suspended so it would turn the grass clippings into powder.

i just push the mower out on the street after and it'll blow the grass back onto the lawn.

Really? What did they look like and where were they installed?

My Craftsman Professional just had the plug and blades.

Blower? How big is your yard? I mean, how big is the perimeter that goes along a sidewalk or a street? Have you considered a broom?

I'm being serious.

There was a large half moon shaped piece of sheet metal that covered the incline to the chute and that had a couple of pieces of angle iron welded to it like a pyramid and also a couple of plastic wedge shaped pieces that were affixed around the perimeter of the cutting deck. This along with the chute cover.

I can't say it's perfect, but Toros are supposed to be better than most at mulching.

Who cares? It's friggen grass clippings! Are your neighbors that uptight? Jeez, the first rain will wash it away or it will dry up to nothing after 2-3 days of sun. You worry too much man.

Seriously. My neighbor will use a blower for 20 minutes to push a 3" deep pile of grass clippings down his driveway and into the middle of the street when he could sweep it up and put it in the garbage in about 2 minutes.
