Riddle: How many dots?

Well apparently, according to a few other forums there's thousands of different logical answers and it's a scam by the broadcaster of the channel to make money off of people phoning in to try and get the right answer.

Damn that's annoying, I was hoping for a simple answer

Is this like the rose petal thing?

How does that work?

I don't get petals around the rose... 😕

EDIT: nevermind, i cheated and found out the secret.

These puzzles are always interesting. I figured it out after the first roll and guess, while other people can't, and I'm sure some people got it before they incorrectly guessed a single time.

I wonder why.

Sweet, it took me ten minutes, but I got it.

Took me 15 seconds...

and I still don't get it...

That's a good thing 😉

"the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out" 😛

I read the title a little too quick, I thought is said "How many lights?" and we all know where it went from there...

That's just the professor covering his incompetency. What kind of possible problem is solved faster by less intelligence?

Obviously none in your head.

I'm sure there's a limit on how long you can take before it suddenly switches over to "total idiot".

I still don't get it

your just over-analyzing it. Think more about the name of the game. Theres a reason its called petals around the rose

Ah, got it.

Wow, retarded, I was trying all sorts of mathematical equations 😱

I think that the more you know about math, the harder petals around the rose is because you employ all kinds of techniques that aren't necessary. It's a bit like Alexander's solution to the Gordian knot--a fresh way of thinking is required. I've forgotten nearly all of math training, and I think that's why I approached the problem like I did--since I didn't remember any math from high school (I only took stats in college, and was barely conscious for it) I didn't waste my time with them. I got it very quickly--second try.
